kind of a dumb question about turkey

I bought a turkey breast.  Does this have any type of bones in it?  I've made one before, but that was last year around this time, and I don't remember.

I was just wondering if it does have the bone in it, could I use it to make soup?

Sorry...told you it was kind of a silly question! Embarrassed

Re: kind of a dumb question about turkey

  • It should say boneless if there is no bone in it.

I didn't look, and of course I didn't bring it to work with me, so I guess I am asking if they typically do. Wink

The thing is around 5 lbs.

  • I'm guessing if it says "turkey breast" that it's boneless.

  • Usually they have a bone in but you can find boneless ones.  The bone will not make good soup...back, neck and thighs do best for that (dark meat).  You can use some of the meat and add it to broth bought at the store though.  I just get the all natural broth with no salt added.
  • it really could go either way, they are sold both bone-in  and boneless. sorry :(

if it does have the bone, it should be pretty quick and easy to take it off the bone with the kitchen sheers.

  • Hmm, after reading the replies, I had no idea there were ones w/ any type of bones.   I've never bought one like that!  I'm officially enlightened!

Okay, I don't feel so dumb now! Smile

Thanks, girls.  I am definitely curious now, so I will look at it when I get home and report back.  LOL!

  • The two that I have in my freezer are both on the bone.

In my experience, the only ones that are boneless are the cutlet type that are sold in those foam trays in the meat dept. The ones that are in the freezer section like the whole turkeys are bone-in.
