So today I had my 29 or 30 week appointment and my OB said I had a UTI. When she gave me an rx for antibiotics I asked her to go ahead and write me an rx for a yeast infection. She told me I could take monistat but would write me an rx for the cream anyways. So I go to fill my prescriptions my copay for my antibiotics was 4 dollars but guess how much my lovely cream was?! 50 bucks! Why would I pay 50 bucks for a cream I could get OTC? I guess insurance didn't cover it or something but seriously 50 bucks for a cream?!
Re: Got to love insurance companies
Well if it were the pill I would totally pay the 50 bucks but for a yucky 7 day cream no thanks I will pay 15 bucks for monistat.
That absolutely doesn't make sense.
I priced OTC PRenatal Vitamins at my hospital, Kaiser and the price was twice that of the same vitamins at Target.
Not true. My insurance specifically requires that generic be filled UNLESS the doctor submits a special waiver. When I went to college in NY, the *law* was that generic had to be filled. Even if the generic was out of stock and they had the brand name, you had to go back to your doctor, get a brand new script, with the brand name and Do Not Substitute.... I think the standard now is to fill the generic, NOT the brand name unless otherwise specified. That was the way it was when I lived in PA and the way it is where I live here in IL.
