First af down! Now for HSG...

I am so happy that my af finally came and lasted 5 days. It looks like the estrogen supplements before provera are what I needed. Now I can schedule my HSG for next Monday, and then we can move on from there.

I've been reading a great book on PCOS, and it says that for most women, the optimal estrogen (estradiol) level at the lowest point in the cycle is 100. Mine was 70 (testosterone 90). They told me my estrogen was normal, but after reading this book and seeing that my body needed estrogen for af, I realize that the doc's reference chart was wrong for me and that I am low in estrogen. Makes me wonder what my other numbers were that they said were normal...

  • I got it from the library and compared to some others that I've read, it's great. Very informative and explains a lot about exactly what's going on in our bodies. I'm not overweight (BMI ~21) or IR, but I still am finding this book very informative and helpful: "The Savvy Woman's Guide to PCOS: The many faces of a 21st century epidemic...and what you can do about it" by Elizabeth Lee Vliet, MD.

It doesn't have as much of a focus in IF specifically, b/c the author is an expert in hormonal disorders and endocrinology, but not RE. Still, it was at the library so I decided to pick it up and I'm glad I did. One thing I did learn through it is how harmful soy can be to PCOS and fertility. I'm veggie with a heavy soy diet, so now I need to rethink my meals big time!

  • Very intersting--thanks for the info! I'm also on the thin side BMI of 20 and I'm not insulin resistant. It's been so frustrating for me to keep reading about how if I just "lose 10 lbs" I'll begin to ovulate again. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!
