FF Moms--getting milk to dry up advice?

I'll be a week PP tomorrow. My milk came in yesterday. It is SOO painful, like the worst engorgement I ever had when BFing DS. I've been wearing a sports bra and taking Sudafed, and not showering with my boobs facing the warm water.

What else should I do? Do cabbage leaves really work?

How long will it take for my supply to dry up?

Thanks!

Re: FF Moms--getting milk to dry up advice?

  • cabbage leaves do work.  Also, I would eat 1/4 tsp of sage 3 times a day (I just put it in a little piece of PB sandwich).  It worked...and then I decided to relactate, but if I hadn't I am confident that I would've been totally dry within a week or so from the time I started taking sage.

Also, wear a bra in the shower and try to keep the water temp barely warm.

  • I obviously don't know yet, but during my BF class, our instructor SWORE by cabbage leaves. GL!
  • I gave Amy the Sage tip, sorta.  I used sage tea... just seeped dried sage in hot water and added honey and cream.  I did 3 cups a day.  I also used Cabbage leaves and they helped SOO MUCH with the pain and swelling.  Within 4-5 days I was done pumping for comfort and stopped taking sage tea.  That was all there was to it for me.  Worked super fast and easy.
