When I had a newborn, I had the following:
Several diapers
Wipes
Burp cloth
Change of clothes
Change of shirt for myself
Nursing cover
bottle of water (for me)
blanket
hat
bags for holding dirty diapers in case no trash can was around
nursing pads

I keep the following in my diaper bag:
6-7 diapers
Wipes
Diaper Cream
Burp cloth
2 outfits
Bottle of water (to make formula)
Bottle
Formula
Blanket
Binky
Hat
Sunscreen
Hand Sanitizer
oh i am a over packer but never ran out of anything! i always kept the stuff above and socks and tylenol.

I'll ditto this! These two have it pretty well covered! I also toss in a rattle toy of some sort. I also have a changing pad in there. Most diaper bags come with them, and I find it helpful to have that to change the LO on. Congrats again!
I have an oversized purse that I use & carry:
2-3 cloth diapers (prefolds & fleece liners) & 2-3 sposies in one wet bag
another wet bag for dirty diapers/outfits
wipes
Purell
a small wristlet with my personal items (chapstick, hair ties, lanolin cream, spare nursing pads, etc)
burp wipe
a change of outfit for her (onesie)
binder clips (officially the best thing ever - I use them to do a makeshift nursing cover when I NIP or to help clip her blanket over her car seat)

Ditto, except I also usually brought a bottle with water and some powdered formula with me, just in case I was somewhere I didn't feel comfortable nursing. I also included butt paste, socks, a couple of pacifiers and a couple of small toys.
