for him to be waking up every hour during the night?

I haven't gotten more than 40mins of sleep in one stretch all night...even on good nights the most I'll get is 2hrs.

and if this is normal...how do you get through it? and how long does it last?

Are you BF-ing?  Babies tend to eat more often when they're younger because their stomachs are like the size of a pea.  Particularly BF babies because they digest BM a lot quicker.  The first week for us was the toughest since DD was constantly waking up at night and we were still trying to figure things out.  Just make sure that when he naps to nap with him.  That helps keep your sanity.
