do you force your LO to take naps?

like I put i my earlier post, we had a resident doc come in today and tell us (after I guess-timated how much she sleep during the day) that we need to make her take more naps..she cat naps all day long maybe 30min naps, but she STTN for the most part.

She also said DD is at the age where we can let her kind of CIO, instead of letting her go for 5 min or so (we do that now and about 50% of the time she goes back to sleep) she said to let her go longer and longer each time, and us and DD will get a better night sleep. I dont really understand.

Do any of you force LO to take naps or had a pedi tell you any of this?

  • I wouldn't listen to that pedi. Your LO is too young to self-soothe, and forcing naps might just make her afraid of her crib (or wherever she sleeps).

  • When DD is tired but refuses to sleep I do what i can to get her to nap.  I will take her in a dark room, nurse her or giver her a paci.  I will basically sit there as long as it takes to get her to sleep, otherwise there will be hell to pay later- she screams like a maniac when she is over-tired.

  • I make my LO take naps. I have him take atleast 3 hour naps during the day. He sleeps pretty good at night now.

my thoughts exactly. i figured if she is tired, she will sleep, and I will not make her cry because we are both getting a great nights sleep.

  • I do rock him to sleep for naps.  He always takes 30 min naps.  I let him sit once he wakes up to get him used to being in his pnp or crib by himself awake but he never falls back asleep, just talks to himself for 10 min. or so

and he is too young to cio

  • I'm not sure I would let DD CIO, and she's 3 mo. old......  As far as naps, when she yawns or gets fussy, I rock her and put her in her crib for a nap, or put her in her swing....I never force her to nap.  She just naps when she's tired.
  • I disagree with this advice.....how do you even force a baby to nap?! Also he's too young to do CIO.
