Re: Leaving My RE To Go To Cornell
I recommend Dr. Owen Davis to everybody for his amazing bedside manner!! He is awesome, we felt so comfortable with him and he takes time to make sure you understand everything and answers all your questions without rushing you. He's just very kind and patient and we absolutely love him, when we had our consult we left there feeling 100x better than when we went in - bedside manner makes all the difference.
But I have heard most of the other REs there are great too, I just haven't had experience with any others yet.
Good luck on your upcoming IUI - Cornell is wonderful but hopefully this one works and you don't have to switch
DD (5 years old) from IUI in 2012
TTC 3rd and final!: IUI #1 in progress!
I also left my RE to go to Cornell. Here is what I will tell you. 1) It doesn't really matter who your RE is at Cornell because the liklihood is you will meet them once at the initial consultation and that is it. The doctors rotate so whoever is on that day will see you throughout the stimming process and the actual retrieval and transfer. So I suggest choosing whichever doctor can see you the soonest and takes your insurance. That's how I would do it if I was starting over.
2) Don't expect any of them except Dr. Davis to be warm and fuzzy. I thought all of them were excellent doctors but only Dr. Davis took two seconds to shake my hand and say hello. In fact, most of them are very cold and business like. I had a round of IVF cancelled and the doctor who happened to be on that day said, "looks like you'll be cancelled- ok- call your RE about it, bye". Up to that point, I thought things were going well so it was a total shock and then the doctor was gone. I'm not kidding- that was it.
Don't expect anything but a factory from the doctors. They're really, really good at what they do but bedside manners are for the most part not their strong point. Again, Dr. Davis and I've heard Dr. Spandoyer are exceptions but for the most part, it's true. When you look at the waiting room full of women anxious to get to work every morning, you'll see why they move so quickly but still, it can be quite a shock if you go from a RE who is very warm.
Good luck with your IUI. I hope it works and this is all moot!
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
i go to dr. kligman and have nothing but wonderful things to say about him. i have seen most if not all the drs in morning monitoring and had great experiences with all of them. every single one took the time to answer my questions, no one ever rushed me and when i have seen a few while going in for appts with my RE they have stopped in the hallway to say hello to me.
i will say that sometimes on the weekend you have to push to make sure you are getting the care you need because your nurse will not be on duty so no one person will be looking out for you, and there is usually just one attending handiling all the calls in the afternoon/evening.
I too left my RE to go to Cornell - wish I've done it sooner!
My Dr. is Dr. Chung - He is perhaps the best doctor I've had (ever! for anything) He calls during the IVF cycle to check in on you, make sure you are holding it together ok. He personally checks your lining prior to each transfer (not a standard practice). Going to him was the best decision I've made in my IF journey.
From my morning experiences, I would say Dr. Davis is awesome as well. Not at all pretentious, takes the time to listen to your concerns. Dr. Schattman did my retrieval for #3, and he's great as well.
They really work as a team - much more so than my old clinic. I was afraid by going to a larger place, I would be lost in the shuffle, not the case at all!
4 Fresh IVF cycles + 1 FET where embies didn't survive the thaw = 2 perfect little men!
