To H1N1. I had my vaccine on Oct 30 - 25 days ago. Good way to test it out, right? I also have a call into the birth center to see if they have anything to say. Here's what I know:
-the 4 yr old I nanny for has had a runny nose since last week, but nothing more until Sat. Over the weekend she spiked a high fever that came and went constantly. By Sunday night she was fine, but by Monday afternoon it spiked again! They got her an appointment this morning. I came to work, not expecting anything worse than a typical virus and it turns out to be H1N1.
-What I want to know is, should I be tested to see if I have it (despite the vaccine)? I'm also supposed to be going home this weekend (NJ!). I'll be in a car with 2 other adults; I'm supposed to cook Thanksgiving Dinner; dinner will consist of 6 adults and 1 teenager. No young children. I don't believe anyone else has had the vaccine though. Am I carrier still, even with the vaccine?
I feel ok. Sniffles, sure, but who doesn't have sniffles when it's been cold and rainy outside? I feel fine. And if I don't go home, it means no Turkey day with DH since he's on a hunting trip in NY and was meeting me in NJ for the holiday. I won't even get to stay here and visit his family b/c they have two young kids. Unless DH comes home and doesn't go to NJ either. I DUNNO!!!! This stuff is so confusing.
Re: I've been exposed:o(
It sounds like the girl you nanny for has had it for awhile- so I would *think* you would be feeling worse either by today or tomorrow if you got it from her. That combined with the fact that you got the vaccine, I wouldn't worry too much. If you go into the doctor's to get checked, that just means more exposure to sick germs of all kinds, so I wouldn't go in if it was me.
I'm not sure about you carrying the vaccine though- I don't think you would be able to get anyone else sick, but I'm not a doctor so that's just my guess
. I would definitely call my OB and get their opinion.
Thanks! I do feel like I'll be ok. I'm more or less worried about whether or not I should be around others.
Funny...we debated me getting the vaccine and now I'm very thankful I did! I'm certainly less concerned than I would be if I didn't get it!
Didn't Lala have Keira isolated at home for 1 week after Chloe stopped showing symptoms? I thought this strain of flu has a long incubation period, which is part of the reason the vaccine is so hard to come by. I would page her!
I'd consult a medical professional on this one! It *seems* like if the vaccine still let you be a carrier there wouldn't be much point in vaccinating ppl, you know? So I want to say that the vax should make you not able to carry it, but who knows.
