If you named DC after someone "famous"

Do you ever tell anyone?  I was reading a post on another board and noticed most people are named after family members or close friends and it made me wonder.  I latched onto DS's name when I was in MS/HS and fell in love with Minor Threat/ Fugazi.  It's a very common name, so no one ever really asks, but when they do, I tell them we wanted a traditional Scottish/ Irish name.

  • Just the opposite, actually... people assume we got DD's name from the Clapton song and we are quick to correct them. I don't know why though, we like the song and we are huge music lovers, it's just not where we got the name!

  • DD#2 is named after somewhere not someone! We honeymooned in the most beautiful place ever: Lucia, California (betcha thought I was going to say St. Lucia!!). I love the connection but I can see how it might be viewed as a little cheesy. DD#1 - honestly? The idea came to me when we bought two holly bushes for our yard!! haha...but I always fib to my BFF and tell her I named her after her (her name is Sue but her demented gma refused to call her anything but Holly after her deceased husband Holland!). Always good for a laugh!

lots of people assume we got our name from HRC.  We didn't, but I don't care if people think that.  It is kind of comical, actually.  When we tell people her name, there is this moment where people either love or hate it BECAUSE of the immediate association, which pretty much tells me which side of the political fence the person is on.

My one friend constantly says "you're such a Democrat" ;P

  • My oldest DS is named after Patrick Henry...as is my DH, his father, his father, and his father.  My DH is the 5th.  Patrick Henry is my DS's 5th great grandfather (or maybe the 6th).  For those of you who don't know history...he is the statesman that said "Give me liberty or give me death!"
  • I picked the name Noah after the character in the Notebook.  MH just liked it.  I always tell people where I got his name from.  I'll tell him too, not that I expect him to like that movie/book for a very long time.
  • We got DS's name, Tanner, from "The Bad News Bears". I fell in love with the name when I was little, and discovered DH (a big baseball fan) loved it, too. I had a student with the same name, so he just assumed I named my son after him. Haha, right! Now Emma, I just loved the name, but for DH, he thinks of "Friends" and his obsession with Rachel :)

  • DS's name is Joaquin.  People always say "like the actor" and we just say yes but it really was just a coincidence.  We both liked the name so we went with it.

DD's name is Makayla and I totally picked it because of Megan Fox's character in Transformers.  Smile  I didn't like the name Megan so I looked up the character's name and totally loved it!  I don't mind telling people that is where I got the name.
