Infertility

can someone explain "natural" IVF?

And who is it good for?  I still have a bunch more hoops to jump through before even getting to treatments, but this question keeps popping into my head.  Thanks!

  • I am doing a natural cycle right now.  It basically means zero to minimal medications. However it can also mean less chance of success however I chose to look at any of these odds as 50/50, in my eyes it is either not going to work or it is!   They are monitoring my natural cycle, I had an ultrasound and urine test on day 3. On day 11 (this Wed.) I will go in for antoher ultrasound to measure the follicle and I will start LH testing with ovulation kits at home.   They have given me one 300IU Follistim injection pen and one Ganilrex. I may or may not use them, haven't gotten word yet.  Once they tell me I will do a trigger/HCG shot and go in for retrieval.  There is always a chance that the one follicle will be empty and not contain a retreivable egg. And then we only have that one follie to fertilize.

Less chances but also less money which was a huge factor. Plus I need to start small, "baby steps", before I can do standard IVF (fear of meds).

Natural is never 100% med free though. Still faced with trigger shot, possibly one or two stim shots, antibiotics for retrieval and anestheia for retrieval, progesterone etc...

It can be hard to find a Doctor or clinic to do this Natrual protocol. Some discreminate with age etc.  I was very lucky that they agreed to do this.
