Warning TMI - I'm getting desperate

I need to go to bathroom!

I've taken 6 colace since friday, eaten veggies, drank water,  eaten fiber bars and had fried food and still no relief :(

I don't know what else to do and I'm debating whether to try an enema.

  • stewed prunes and some metamucil. when my mom broke her hip the the pain meds backed her up terribly i had to make her stewed prunes like once a week.

if that doesn't work go for the enema. so sorry you are having issues, that just sounds awful

  • oh you must be so uncomfortable!  how long has it been?

I can't think of anything else to add- except maybe prune juice?  if it tastes gross- mix it with something else- maybe a smoothie?

Sending "unloading" vibes your way- so you don't need to try an enema.

Can you call the dr on monday - maybe they can call something in..

Surprise BFP after 5 yrs of TTC
  • I would say just go for the enema. I know it sounds gross. But DH had to do it after his first TESE. He went in the bedroom and laid a towel on the bed and did it with me several rooms away.

I hope something works for you!

  • You should try Fiber One products.. they definitely help me!

  • Oh man, that sounds miz.

I hope something works for you soon.  I had to do an enema before kidney donation surgery and it wasn't as bad as it seems.  Is it safe during the 2ww though?

I don't know if it is safe :(  I googled enema during pregnancy and got mixed answers.

I just did two shots of wheat grass and took another probiotic

I am so bloated.  I have to wear pants tomorrow night to fancy event b/c I look pregnant in all my dresses (even with spanx)

  • Miralax worked for me when I was stopped up after surgery. Good luck.
  • My vote is for prune juice.  My MIL worked in a nursing home and suggested warm prune juice.  It usually kicks in pretty quickly.  Also, get some exercise if you can.  My sister swears by a good jog, but I think even a long walk can help.

I'm sooo sorry that you're uncomfortable, I have never had it that bad but I've been close.  I would do an enema if you don't go soon, as long as that's safe.

  • I had TERRIBLE constipation after my last ER.  My RE recommended Colace, but after that didn't do the trick, he told me to get Milk of Magnesia.  It took about 2 hours or so, and it worked.  I know just how you feel, it's really awful.  Try the MOM - it just might work for you too.  Good luck!!
  • OMG worms! I just blogged about this! Thank you for posting, I need recs for my own damn constipation as well. I hope you (and I) get some relief soon! Sad

  • There is an enema for children that I used when I was KU (before MC). The Dr. had told me it was safe. It was a saline enema for children under 6 and it worked like a charm. Fleet enema for children. Saline.

  • SO sorry you're having so much trouble with this. My mom (nurse) swears by "Power Pudding" for her older patients esp. those on narcotics.

  • Some of my meds do this to me and I can only eat so many fiber one bars, yogurt and double fiber bread :-).

I saw this posted on SAIF a couple weeks ago and was going to see if it works.  I can't remember who posted it.

Power Pudding:  Mix 1 cup each prunes, prune juice, applesauce and All Bran. Eat 1/2 cup daily.

Power Juice - Fill an 8 oz glass with one third orange juice, one third apple juice and one third prune juice.  Warm and drink the full 8 ounces before bedtime.

Miralax is always another option too.  Good Luck

  • I vote enema. I've had some major issues b/c of the anti-nausea meds I was on, while all those other options work.....sorry this is way TMIEmbarrassed....if what is at the end is so hard/dry and won't come out all those other things tend to make it worse and just cause a lot of pressure. An enema will clear you out and then take the other things to keep you regular. For me about 4-5 dried apricots a day do the trick.

  • This sounds completely weird, but McDonald's breakfast.  Get one of the sandwich/burrito meals with the hash brown and some OJ or Coke.  I'm amazed how many people this works for (me included), usually within 1-3 hours.

Besides that, prune juice, dried prunes, Miralax (this is safe in pregnancy, I've had it) or lots of Fiber One or other high fiber cereal (Go Lean has one too I think).

I'm so sorry sweetie.  I know this sucks, I dealt with it on and off my whole 1st tri, into the second.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that while it's completely miserable now, that it's a good sign for you.  -hugs-

  • I would try the milk of magnesia and or the prune juice. We tell our cancer patients to take the milk of magnesia and it helps out a lot. Sorry you are having so much trouble :( Hope you get relief soon.

Yes, try this.  I remember I had to empty myself out for a barium swallow series and they had me take milk of magnesia at home beforehand.

I'd think that and prune juice would do the trick.

When I had surgery I got so constipated and the only thing that worked was Milk of Magnesia. Hope that helps GL also if you want you can try to "work" it out. I'm a massage therapist and you can rub your stomach in a clockwise motion around your belly button it takes a little bit but it helps me sometimes you can do it whenever. You can try it on the toilet with your knees up a little like putting a stool under your feet or on the bathtub (its suppose to be a better bathroom position)

  • I had this problem when I had my surgery. I LOVE the walmart brand stool softners. My mom has issues as well, and nothing works for her, but these do! I take 2 at a time.
  • Don't know if you are still around cuz it's so late, but when I was in the hospital recently for my OHSS I went for 8 days with nothing. Milk of magnesia worked finally. Painful cause it made my stomach cramp, but it worked. GL!!!

  • I vote for Miralax. It will take a day or 2 - but take it every day and you won't have any problems. I took it while I was on prednisone (which causes me severe constipation) and it worked wonders.
