Another PT question for moms of boys

If you use a toilet ring, do they do ok not splashing?  I got Eli a ring today, since he wants to sit on the big potty, but the splash guard is pretty pathetic looking (they all were).  So I'm just wondering if we're going to have to teach him to hold it down from the beginning.  I was hoping that would be something he could learn later in the process.  Or do they just hang down low enough that it works?

Re: Another PT question for moms of boys

  • Ben doesn't need much of a splash guard, but I also taught him to just hold it down.  Even with him holding it down, that's no guarantee.  There's the occasional over-spray when he has to go really bad and it has the pressure of a firehose.

  • We immediately started by telling him to hold it down. Sometimes he forgets but it's much easier IMO to start from the beginning.

  • The splish guard seemed to get more in the way than anything for us. We only used the potty ring for a little bit b/c he always made a mess.  We did tell him to push it down or "shoot the hole"
