Tell me about Crocs! 2 questions

I see a lot of kids my DS' age wearing Crocs.

1. Are they still cool? I'm talking for a 1 year old.

2. Are they "okay" for them to wear? I swear I remember some big story about how kids shouldn't wear them for some dangerous reason. I googled and got nothing. Am I making this up?

Re: Tell me about Crocs! 2 questions

  • DD had a pair this summer and practically lived in them.

She has a pair of 'winter-ish' ones now that she also loves. They are sparkley silver and furry on the inside.

  • DD has a knock off pair from walamrt and I love them. Toss them in the wash as often as you need and they are brand new again!

I have no idea about them not being able to wear them for some reason.....

  • Those are the most hideous shoes I have ever seen :)
  • They can be very dangerous when children wearing them use escalators - some kids have lost nails, toes and had their feet severely damaged.  Here's a link to the snopes investigation, but you can also google Crocs and escalators for more details.

  • DS wore them all summer.  I think they are cute on little ones, but I hate to see adults wear them. :)

  • DD loves hers.  She will even be wearing them in her Christmas card pic because I couldn't get her to take the d@mn things off without a meltdown.

  • Okay, cool or not, I will go ahead and buy a pair for DS. I'm mostly looking for something easy to put on and take off for daycare. He also likes running in puddles and mud and I am tired of always washing out his 1 pair of sneakers. They are on sale right now. We live in FL and it is still so hot, so I think he'll get some use out of them.

Thanks for the info on the escalators. I bet that is what I heard.

  • You might be thinking about the pre-walking/learning to walk stage.  At that point it is best for your LO to either be in bare feet or soft soled shoes like Robeez.   I think once they are walking (and running) it doesn't much matter anymore.

  • my guys have the world's fatest feet and crocs are the only thing that seem to fit and be comfortable for them and easy to get on and off for me.  we live in south carolina, so they still wear theirs on a daily basis.  my guys are not doing a lot of escalator riding so i am not worried about this study right now.
