Baby Showers

How far in advance can you have your baby shower?

I know it's too early for me right now but since I'll have out of town guests I'm wondering how far in advance can you have a shower?

I'm having twins so I can give birth 4 to 6 weeks before my due date.

Any thoughts or ideas would be of great help!

  • My shower is 2 weeks from tomorrow....so I'll be just over 29 weeks.  With the holidays and my BFF due mid-January, it just works out better.  Just give it time and whomever decides to throw you a shower will hopefully keep in mind that you're carrying 2!  Congrats on the twins Smile
  • Whenever you want. Most people wait until around month 7 but there is no "rule".

  • Thank you for the feedback.... I'm asking because my husband and I have to find a place to have it (no one owns a house - city living Sad ) and everyone's apartment is too small so I want to start looking now so at least we know how much it's going to cost.

Do you have to have food or just finger food at your shower?

  • I had my first shower pretty early on since it was a 7 hour car drive for me (mostly family and my close friends so no one questioned a thing).  I had my next shower at about 34 weeks.  If you are having twins, I would think you have a great reason to have it early!
  • With twins I wouldn't have it much past 30 weeks.  You will likely be uncomfortable or on bed rest for the last few months of your pregnancy.

I had my "big" shower at 33 weeks.  I'm glad I did because I gave birth unexpectedly at 35 weeks.  I thought I had PLENTY of time... nope!  I also had a smaller shower at 31 weeks, a surprise work shower at about 30 weeks, and a surprise shower when I went to visit friends (we moved 18 months ago so I was there to catch up with my girls) at 19 weeks.  The 19 weeker was pretty darn early but I had no idea that was happening and they knew they wouldn't be able to travel to my other showers.

  • I am having my first shower tomorrow and my big shower in my home town will be when I am 35 weeks.
  • For my 1st preg, my shower was at 30 wks, per my request. I wasn't sure I'd be in any shape to attend and be cordial (LOL) any further along. GL!
  • I am having mine @ 29 weeks, my sil who hjad twins had hers at 25 weeks...
  • I had mine around 26 weeks with DD. I ended up on bed rest for the last mth so it's a good thing it was early.

    It's really a personal preference.

  • I had my first shower at 27 weeks. It was perfect because I felt great and I had the perfect baby bump...not too small but not too big that I looked miserable. However, I'm sure with twins that won't be a problem at all since you pop out a lot sooner.
