Did GHM disappear????

After the waffle debate??? I don't think I've seen here since then...

Re: Did GHM disappear????

  • She posted last night, something about waffles.  I have looked for this post and can't find it.  Would someone please provide me some entertainment.  K thanks :)

  • she came back and made a comment that she was surprised that the waffle thing lead to drama.  I'm not sure if she realized it wasn't the waffles, it was her holier than thou attitude that we were talking about.
  • no she responded to a non-waffle related post of mine last night.
  • Yeah she replied that she didn't know why it should be a surprise that she posted that.

She'll be back in full force in a couple of days.  This is what she does when somebody calls her out on something.  She disappears for awhile and then comes back like nothing happened.  She's done it a few times before.  I guess she doesn't like dealing with it.

  • What is the waffle post? Can someone please link it?
  • I didn't think the waffle thing was a big deal or uppity of her at all...I think people just got sensitive.

I WISH I didn't feed my kids as many frozen waffles as I do, but I still do it! (I DO get organic whole grain ones but I still just stuff them in the toaster.)

  • What got me was that she just assumed everyone always has time to do it, so that translates to her thinking we all just throw poptarts at our kids because we're lazy and don't feel like it.

Which is really just not the case (ok, some of the time it is, but you KWIM).

I need an extra day in my week, not her fault, but I think it really didn't dawn on her that there simply is zero time most days.

  • Look, I think her standards -- and the fact that anyone who doesn't live up to them is a poor parent -- are ridiculous.  Sure, I'm jealous in that I wish I had that much conviction, but I don't.

Her tone/words are judgy.  Plain and simple.

That said, if nutrition were THAT important to people, even working moms, they would get up 15 minutes earlier and make their kids some damn eggs.  It doesn't take *that* long to make eggs.  Hell, 15 minutes probably gives you enough time to clean the pan too.  So let's not pretend it's a work vs non-work thing.  She could just as easily NOT cook those eggs and blame it on the fact that she has three kids to watch over at that particular time.

Or you could kiss myass, jesus jodi.

  • oh- I totally get that- but I do also think that peopel are familiar with their own situation, and tend to assume that things are the same for everyone- I don't think that it was like...judgy so much as...I don't know...

also, maybe its a pain in her butt that she considers a worthy labor of love, and she feels like she'd rather just throw the poptarts, but can't make herself do it...I feel that way about some things...like meat.

I think it would be SO MUCH EASIER to feed my kids meat than to give them a balanced vegetarian diet (sometimes. Some days it seems perfectly easy to keep them meat free....but when like we're on the go all day, and Im tired or lazy..I'd rather just stop at McDonalds and get them a happy meal on the way home but instead i have to go home and find a protein a veggie and some damn carbs, and make it all myself!

and it is all self inflicted! nobody makes me keep them vegetarian!  I am a prisoner to myself!  ( well, my dad would flip his lid if he caught me feeding them chicken nuggets or something...)

  • Kori --- sorry!  :(  Didn't mean to upset you but are you telling me you can't wake up 15 minutes earlier to cook your kid eggs?  really?

I hadn't weighed in before but am bored :).

I, for one, leave for work (on the days I go into the office) before the kids have had breakfast. I do think this is a pretty unrealistic idea for most full-time working parents.  What time should I wake up?  4:30? :)

The idea that it is just so NOT HARD to cook your kids a home-made breakfast every morning totally depends on your circumstances. For me, it would be darn near impossible. What rubbed me the wrong way was GHM saying that she doesn't understand why other people think it's so hard. This whole thing is sorta the SAHM vs WOHM debate isn't it?

but I think that is less " I am better than you" than it is " I don't get it"

her reality is what she knows, she doesn't see why its so hard for other people, b/c she's not in their situation. All people would have to do is say " Here is why that is so hard"

no offense needed to be taken-I really think people took it the wrong way.

Ditto this. Its not just as easy as getting up 15 mins earlier. My DS is NOT a breakfast kid when he first wakes up, he won't eat. Once he's been up for an hour or two, then he'll eat. So I pack his breakfast and he eats once he gets to daycare.

  • Girls, I need an OP... Please!

    My

  • Ugh, stupid Nest.

I'm trying to say, my kids eat waffles almost every morning. What am I doing wrong?

  • I think my pancake comment got a lot of people rilled up--but it was totally taken the wrong way--I am/was shocked people give their kids pancakes daily...but that's because I associate pancakes w/ a big production weekend breakfast.  You know dig out the bowl, measure all the ingredients, heat up the pan, stand there "tending" to them, etc.  Freaking PITA.  Plus they are super sweet in my house because my kids won't eat waffles or pancakes w/ out a dump of syrup on them which is not exaclty healthy but also (& more importantly in my world) messy as hell.  Yes, I just dump a packet of oatmeal in a bowl (or some other cereal) in a bowl (& microwave in the case of oatmeal).  People are way too sensitive!  I wouldn't give my kids eggs everyday either (due to my own laziness & the cholesterol).  Fruit, yogurt, cereal (or any grain) is fine.  My kids get plenty of sugar & fast food...I am no food snob, that's for sure!

  • ITA  w/you, Jodi.  I mean I know there are exceptions but most people could make eggs or oatmeal in the morning if it was important to them.

Not I. I am not 'on' at that time of the morning.  DS wouldn't eat it anyway but I bet DD would.  Instead she has things like cotton candy flavored gogurt.  On my lap.  While I play mafia wars on FB.  image

I do however make great dinners.   All kinds of complicated things that take forever.

OMG -- I read this about 5 min ago but just caught my composure enough to reply!  LMAO!  ;)

I don't know about all this nutrition stuff.  Joey had two slices of toast this morning --- w/cream cheese and grape jelly (you know, the sugary store bought not made out of freshly stomped grapes that I did out on the back deck last night).  The other day, he had Eggo waffles.  You know, the four mini ones that you can pop in the toaster.  He prefers his plain however if he didn't, I would have done it up with syrup for him if he wanted.

I don't see any difference in those meals, if there even is one.  And some mornings, he has two eggs with one slice of cheese mixed in and scrambled.  Again, no difference in my mind in those three meals.  They are all breakfast, all A-OK in my book and none of them are going to make him stupid, obese OR unhealthy! ;)

  • Eh, everyone has their priorities.  Nutrition used to be a big one for me.  Now I'm just excited that Chocolate Chex are gluten-free.  :)

    .
  • You think, BOF? Honestly, I think GHM is smart and she has three kids so I do think she realizes that it would be easy to cut some corners when it comes to breakfast if you had someplace to be (and you might oh get fired if you weren't there on-time).

It seemed like a statement about priorities to me. Or rather a judgement on those whose priorities are different than hers.

But really, I don't care about all this. I like GHM. I'm just feeling fiesty or something today.

  • And EMT (and others), see, I wouldn't have thought about those that get up and go to work before their DC even wakes up --- because that isn't my reality, or the reality of those around me --- so it didn't even occur to me.

  • I need an extra day in my week, not her fault, but I think it really didn't dawn on her that there simply is zero time most days

Jodi - which is why I said this about ghm above - it really didn't occur to her (I think) that people don't have time.  I know I kind of went off about it to her, mostly because of the way she "said" it.  I wish I had the time to do it, but good lord there's no way.  I got 3-4hrs of non-consecutive sleep for 16months straight.  I'm freaking sleeping now while I can.

  • Aren't a lot of kids allergic to eggs?  Its very possible I could be talking out of my ass.  But it seems like eggs and 15 minutes might not be the easiest solution.  I know my kid, who is a decent eater, won't touch eggs w/ a ten foot pole.

I'm with chris-wyobride or however you spell her name - I think of pancakes, etc. as a weekend big breakfast thing.  Jackson eats cereal/fruit or toast/fruit every morning b/c I apparently have weird hangups about cooked meals [I mentioned this the other day].

I've had my issues on and off with GHM, but I think this is my biggest issue w/ her: she seems to assume that everyone could make her choices if they wanted to, which is just silly.  There's something to be said for being able to see the other side.  I think she comes off as being unable to see the other side.

  • Didn't realize this was going to start waffle war 2.0......

    A. Since when did eggs become the quintessential "perfect mom" breakfast???

    B. I don't really see much of a difference in cereal, waffles or pancakes....its a grain, usually sweetened with sugar.

    C. I  like GHM too...and my comment/flame wasn't specific to the waffle post..but to several of her recent posts....but it keeps coming back to the waffles.  She has a judgemental way about her and maybe its because you can't "hear" her tone, but the way she "types" comes off "I'm better than you all, neener, neener, neener."   That's fine...she can be better than me.

  • Cooking an egg is lazier than cooking a waffle. Which is why I cook waffles, to you know, prove that I am a dedicated mom and that I TAKE the time to feed my child his daily required carbohydrates. For his energy. Because he needs more of it.

Eggs, you crack and cook, one minute and they are done.... Waffles, you gotta open the damn box, careful not to damage the top other wise the whole bag inside has to be extra secured, take the waffles out, toast them, then cool them, then butter them or syrup them or whatever and then cut them into bite size peice. Too much work,

Smile  You need to teach your kid the pleasures of eating the waffle frozen.

When Ben was a toddler, I made him a hot breakfast every morning, usually pancakes or waffles from scratch. Then I discovered frozen pancakes and waffles and my life became complete.
