Had my (almost) 30w MFM appt. yesterday

First off, I can't believe I'll be 30 weeks tomorrow. That's just nuts. This pregnancy is going by so fast!

Good news and bad news (well, not "bad", just not so excellent) at the appt. Both babies look fantastic. They are growing really well, my fluid levels look good, my cervix is still long, HB's are strong, etc. They are nearly neck and neck in size. Baby A (the boy) he is estimating at 3 lbs. 4 oz. right now and Baby B (the girl) at 3 lbs. 3 oz. That's all great news.

The not-so-good news. They are not presenting well, Baby A is breech and Baby B is transverse. Baby A is lower down w/ his butt towards my cervix and head up near the left side of my ribcage. Baby B is laying completely sideways way up high near my rib cage, her spine is facing down, head on my left side and butt on my right. By the way she was moving, I could tell her butt was up at my right rib cage, but I didn't know it was b/c she was laying sideways, I was hoping maybe she'd flipped head down.

At this point in time, he suspects they won't change positions. Isn't 33w pretty much the "set in stone" positioning time table? So maybe there's a small chance it could change, but he's 90% sure I'll need a c-section. So, we'll just have to be prepared for that. I was hoping to not have one.

I know it really doesn't matter in the end, especially since they are both so healthy. But I didn't want to deal w/ that recovery. Oh well! There are bigger deals in life. I'm hoping they flip, but don't think they will.

Other than that, all is going really well!

  • Glad to hear you're babies are growing well. I've had that same feeling, like I can't believe I'm already 30 weeks. It is incredible, isn't it. Mine are also both breech. I can feel their heads under my rib cage. I'm pretty disappointed. I keep crossing my fingers that baby A will flip, but not getting my hopes up.

  • Well, everything sounds good with your babies.  I just want you to know-- my mom had c-sections with both me and my sister and says the recovery was extremely easy.  So don't worry about that aspect of it!  You are right that the most important thing is healthy babies.

  • Congrats! I was 30 weeks yesterday with my twins and can't believe how fast it's going! Like you, my baby A is also breech. She has been breech pretty much my whole pregnancy so I'm not counting on her flipping. My doc told me a few weeks ago that it was almost certain I'm going to have a c-section. That was my biggest fear when i got pregnant. However since then I've done a lot of research and am now thinking it won't be so bad. At least this way if we have to have scheduled c-sections we can be more prepared for the actual day. That's how I'm trying to look at it anyway.

  • Glad to hear that they are growing so well! I have my 30 week MFM appointment on Tuesday and am anxious to see their postitions. It's funny because at my last appointment my boys were in the same exact position that you described. Based on the movement that I feel, I'm afraid that baby a is still breech. I was hoping to not have a c-section, but looks like its gonna be in the cards for both of us!

Good luck to you! I hope you are feeling well!

  • I'm so glad to hear your babies are doing great!  I can't believe you are already 30 weeks!!  That means you have less than 10 weeks to go, are you getting super excited??

I think even twins can still flip up to the time of delivery, so don't get TOO bummed out yet.  I know mine were both head down at 25 weeks, but I'm pretty sure baby A just flipped breech (or transverse?) this week.  I don't feel him up as high as I used to, and all his kicks are down in my pelvis now.

Anyway, I wish you the best of luck and I'll be hoping they both decide to turn head down for you!!
