Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

House lay-outs

We're looking at moving and touring lots of houses as a result.  Our place is comfortable but we're thinking of LO#2 and I want to still have a place for my mom to sleep when she helps out.  (She lives 45 minutes away).

Many of the houses we're looking at have a master bedroom + 1 other upstairs and then 2+ downstairs.  Anyone have a toddler bedroom on another floor?  How do you handle it once they're out of the crib?

I'm thinking a monitor and gate so she can't wander the house.

Re: House lay-outs

  • We have a townhouse on 4 levels. Top level is our MBR and the level below is the other bedrooms. DS is already in a big boy bed so he could technically get up and wander around if he wanted. I do have a monitor and I keep his bedroom door closed so I'm bound to hear him open it if he did wake up in the middle of the night and I miss it otherwise. I should say he's very good with the stairs so even if he did get up and leave his room he'll be ok. Funny thing though he has never got up and wandered around. He always calls for me first.

The monitor is important though b/c I wouldn't be able to hear him otherwise.
