Are you getting a Christmas bonus?

I don't think DH is getting one AGAIN this year.  I don't know why not.  Companies (including his) are doing much better and the stock market is up a lot from where it was last year.  I know EVERY company isn't doing well, but I'm just curious.  Are the companies ya'll work for doing bonus this year?  Did they do them last year?

Re: Are you getting a Christmas bonus?

  • Hellz no!
We used to get two bonuses a year AND a Christmas bonus. Since last year, that was all taken away from us. : (
This also means no Christmas party this year.

  • I've never received a Christmas bonus with my company.  DH got a free ham last year.  This year he gets nothing, because he now works for the same company I do. lol

  • my current job doesnt offer bonuses, but my previous job did and I know they were taken away this year.  hopefully in 2010, blah blah blah.
  • DH only gets one bonus a year and they already took that away.  There will also be NO Christmas party. :(
  • I hope so!!!  I picked up a ton of extra responsibility this year with no pay increase.  Which I understood...crappy economy.  We got decent bonuses last year and I am guessing we will get something this year.  Typically they would have already told us if there was going to be nothing.  In the 10 yrs I have been there there was only 1 yr we got nothing.  I am not expecting much but still hopeful!

  • Does a ham count as a bonus?  If not, then no.
  • No, we have never received a bonus and it's certainly not going to start now. Our boss does let us close a half day on Chrismas Eve and takes us to lunch. Normally we go to TGI Fridays.
  • Ha! I'm looking at two years in a row of a raise freeze and no end of the year bonus.

  • I work for the state, so that would be a big fat NO.  Sucks!
  • I think ofas a bonus. Teachers here gt a "teacher's choice" check for $ 250. It's basically giving us our money back from buying things though out the year. You save your receipts from august until march

  • Yes I got a memorable bonus last year, I was let go a week before Christmas and I still do not have a job a year laterSad
  • nope, but my company never offers one.  We'll see about DH, though.
  • My company does not do Christmas bonuses.  DH's family business used to but has scaled back significantly on them.  When they bought the business 5 years ago, the former owner gave everyone one weeks' pay.  They have cut that back to 1/2 week and wish they could get rid of the bonus all together.  Yes, the economy is doing better than last year, but it is no where near what it was.  Companies are still suffering and recouping their losses from the down turn.

  • Yes, I'm getting a bonus, but it pales in comparison to what I got last year.

  • My employer doesn't give Christmas bonuses.

  • I hae never received a christmas bonus. our company does not give them out but I have a feeling that when it comes review time that my biitch boss and going to make it so that I don;t get a raise if they even offer raises this uear. Last year we didn't get raises "because of the economy" and the F-ing CEO had the nerve to say that things are tough for the company, but that he lives 2 doors down from No Doubts band manager in CA. umm you don;t know hard times @sshole!!

  • DH gets a bonus every quarter and a Christmas bonus.  But the Christmas one is never as big as the others.

  • It's a one year membership in the jelly of the month club.

  • Yes, but it's part of our entire benefits package.  I would not have been surprised if they had taken it away this year, but thankfully they didn't.

  • Word is that we aren't. But we'll see. I work for a very small company.
  • I do get something like a bonus but it's not from the school. The home and school association collects money for a teacher present. Instead of the parents all getting the teachers something small they all chip in towards a lump sum. The money collected is divided among all the teachers. We get a check. it varies from year to year but last year I believe it was $175. I kind of like it this way because as a specials teacher I wouldn't normally be remembered and for the parents sake it's easier to chip in 10 bucks a family then even $5 a kid. Some of our families have 4 or more kids in the school and that gets expensive, especially upstairs where the kids have 4 teachers.
  • Ha! The only XMAS bonus I get is that I get to watch everyone's kids for the two weeks they are off from school. Stick out tongue

  • We got bonuses last year and will probably get them this year, but we get them in March. We did have pay freezes though, and since I got promoted and didn't get a pay increase I actually got a pretty nice bonus last year to "compensate" for the pay freeze.  Just because a company is "doing well" doesn't mean they should be out spending money, sometimes it's good to be conservative and set money aside.  We're not out of the woods yet as far as an economic recovery so IMO it's best to be cautious.

  • LOL, I can't even get my yearly review! Although we have never gotten christmas bonuses anyways. Dh used to get one. His company stopped when the owner found out that taxes needed to be payed on the bonus. He used to give every employee that showed up to the Christmas party $200 gc.
