I will probably delete this later, but I have looked for the answer on my own and I can't find anything.
If your child qualifies for social security, what is the money intended for?
I ask because someone I know, took three years to get her child evaluated for autism. After finding out her child is autistic, she went around talking about how there's a positive to her child being the R-word because the government gives her money. She quit her job after her second child and became a SAHM. Now, this would be not so weird, if she wasn't a single parent, now with three kids with three different men. For some reason, when I think about social security for your kids, I don't think the intent is so you can keep popping kids out and not work, right?
Thank you!
Re: Social Security Question
This is my view on it, as well.
Thank you both for your responses. I understand that SSI should be used to make up the difference of what you can't do. I would probably be less judgmental about the situation, if she didn't make a big deal out of how her daughter is some kind of cash cow.
You'd think she'd be using the bare minimum of what she had to and saving the rest for the child's care once she's gone, since the SS payment probably wouldn't be enough to cover the child having to live in a home (as an adult, etc.).
And please please tell me that this woman did NOT say that it's cool her kid is a retard because it gets her free money from the government. I assume that's what you mean by the R word...this lady sounds like a real peach.
