Breakfast and toddlers/preschoolers--Frustrated

My DS must not be a breakfast kid which worries me.  DH and I are both cereal eaters in the morning and it is driving me crazy that DS won't even eat Froot Loops!

What do you do when your DC doesn't eat breakfast?  I offer him a variety---cereal (multiple kinds from Frosted Mini Wheats to Froot Loops), waffles, cheese toast, oatmeal, bananas, yogurt and even if he does pick something, more than half the time he picks at it or doesn't touch it at all!  He like everything I have offered so it's not a matter of not eating b/c he doesn't like it.

Should I try some of the Nutripals drinks?  Other suggestions?

  • Do you feed him right when he wakes up?  DS has to be up for a little while before he is ready for breakfast.  Maybe get him involved in making breakfast so he will be more interested.

  • Definitely see if feeding him a little later works.

Another thing to think about is offering non-breakfast foods.  One of my DDs likes pretzels and apples with peanut butter and a glass of milk most mornings.  Hardboiled eggs is another favorite.

And if all else fails, pick up some healthy cereal bars.  :)

  • My kids drink milk right when they wake up, so they're not big breakfast eaters.  If I wait an hour, they're much more likely to eat a good breakfast.  Even then, they really only eat 2 good meals a day.  So, if they eat a good breakfast, they're picking at lunch or dinner.
