2nd Trimester

voicemail from my doctor today :(

So I just got a voicemail from my OB. She said not to worry too much but that she was looking over my 20 week ultrasound pictures and the babies belly looks too big. They need to do a repeat ultrasound in four weeks to make sure everything is okay. Needless to say, Im worried! Anyone else have this happen? I am going to talk it over with my OB but right now Im wondering what could cause the baby to have a big midsection that she might be worried about. I googled it and found nothing.

Re: voicemail from my doctor today :(

  • I have no answers, but wanted to tell you that I'm sorry.  I'm sure everything will turn out fine.  It seems like 4 weeks would be a long time to wait if it was too serious.

  • Hopefully they'll do the follow up ultrasound and everything will be fine. When I was pregnant with my son they thought his head was measuring too large and it could be a sign of down syndrome. I was freaking out and then we had the level II ultrasound and he measured perfect! Hang in there, I'm sending positive thought your way!

  • I have no answers, but did want to say I hope everything is ok.  Call your doctor and ask what the concern would be and what they are looking to eliminate as a possible complication.  At least that way you can educate yourself over the next four weeks.

     Keep us posted!

  • Hey there. ?Sorry you got such a yucky voicemail today. ?There could be a million reasons why your baby's belly was big on US, but try not to worry about all the "what ifs" until you talk to your doc and get the repeat US. ?I know it's easier said than done, but stay positive for you and your peanut.?
  • I know how scary this can be.  They found something at my 20 week u/s with my son.  Everything was fine, and I hope it will be for you too.

  • No answers here, but I wanted to say I'm sorry you got that voicemail from your Doctor.  I agree with another mom who said 4 weeks seems like a long time to wait if they think its something serious.
Also remember that at about 14 weeks, all babies start to grow at different paces, following the same developmental path of course, maybe your baby's tummy just grew more than usual at this point, but will slow down later.

Try to be positive, and keep us posted.
Sending happy thoughts and love your way!

  • If your OB said don't worry, don't worry. If he/she thought it was serious, they'd likely want to see you right away. I hope everything turns out to be normal at your follow up!

  • The same thing happened at an US I had with DD but I think I was closer to 30 weeks.  It was nothing.  Try not to worry.
