Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Not STTN @ 18 months - help!

She sttn at about 16 months, but then we took the nuk away and she reverted to waking once. Then at 17 months she started sttn again, but then got H1N1 and again reverted to waking once.

She has never gone back to sttn - she wakes once between 1-3 asking for milk. If we give her some she falls right back asleep, if we don't she will literally stay up crying until morning.

Ideas? Or will this phase just pass & I should wait it out?

  • We go through the same thing. She wakes up at around 4am for milk. Cries if we don't give her some. For the sake of my sanity I'm giving her some.

  • i know it's tough but ignore it. babies don't need milk during the night at 18months. it's a phase and will pass. otherwise you will be kicking yourself later for giving in and have a bigger problem on your hands.
  • DS wasnt STTN at 18 mos either, he would wake up 2-3x and it felt like having a new born again.

We sleep trained again. We did ferber before with success and did it again.

He cried for about 20 mins on 1st nite, but 3-4 days later he learned to soothe himself again. he still wakes up 1-2x, cries for a  couple of mins but now he falls back to sleep by himself.

    GL, i know it's tough!

  • I tried to let her CIO the other night and after more than an hour, I brought her milk. How long do I let her cry? Oh, and she gets more mad if I bring her water.
  • CIO means CIO - even if it takes an hour plus.  She's 18 months old and STUBBORN.

When I was doing this, I got DS down to a bottle with 4 oz of milk.  Then I did 3 oz. milk and 1 oz. water and so on until he just had water.

  • Have you tried giving her an extra snack during the day to see if she's really hungry or if it's more habit?

  • She only gets probably 3 oz - maybe I'll try adding water per the suggestion. Thanks ladies. And yes, she is STUBBORN...I wonder where she gets it??? lol
