2nd Trimester

Anyone have bleeding in the 1st trimester?

I had brown and pink spotting today.  I actually had an appointment scheduled already, so I was able to go in this afternoon.  The doctor couldn't give me a cause for the bleeding (couldn't be caused by sex), but did an ultrasound and we saw the baby measuring on track and the little heart beating away:)  She said spotting is fairly common, but I didn't have it with either of my other pregnancies.  Can anyone share a story with me to help put me at ease? :)  I'm 7 weeks and 5 days if that matters at all.

Re: Anyone have bleeding in the 1st trimester?

  • Yep!!!  I spotted all through 1st tri.  It actually caused me to wait a few extra days to POAS, b/c I thought I had my period.  It continued all through 1st tri, for no reason, most of the time super bright red.  For me it stopped around 14 weeks, but it can continue all the way through too.

  • I spotted several times during 1st tri & a couple times here in 2nd tri.  They couldn't find a reason for my bleeding either but the heartbeat has been strong every time they check!  It's just one of those weird things that can happen, no worries!!

  • Bleeding/spotting is pretty common in pregnancy. I've had both. As long as baby is fine and you are not cramping bad I would think nothing of it. I've gotten so use to it by now. Every doctor I have seen wasnt the slightest concerned. They all said the same thing, that it was common and not to worry unless it went along with cramping.

  • I had spotting on and off for a few weeks. Come to find out it was because I had a subchoronic hematoma.

  • I had random spotting at 9w and 10w. We never could find a cause and the nurse said sometimes it just happens. I'm 17 weeks now and doing just fine, GL.

Oh, I also had the strong spotting every 2-3 days.  doc always said i was fine, my u/s looked good and everything.  Just came back from appt and we are doing great.

  • I spotted and passed "stuff" around the same time. The Dr. did a vaginal ultrasound and saw spots of blood. Told me I would probably pass more before my next appointment but if I did it was cool. Well I never passed anything else but when I went back in my dr said my body had reabsorbed the blood.

  • I had it on and off in my first tri, and they could never find a reason. Baby was always fine though! It's scary but agree with pp- unless you have cramping and heavy bleeding, don't worry.

  • I had spotting once at 10 weeks and again at 13 weeks. The first time they saw a subchorionic bleed and then rechecked it a week later to make sure it wasn't getting bigger. The second time they didn't see anything so my doctor said it may have been the last of the blood coming out instead of absorbing into my body. I haven't had any bleeding since and everything seems to be okay.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • I found out that I was pregnant when I was about 5+ weeks. I was spotting off and on for another week and a half. It stopped, then it began around week 9 for a day or two. I also went to the doctor and they said that it sometimes happens to pregnant women. They told me to drink lots of water and to prop my feet up when I was on the couch. The nurse told me to call if changed to red. That was the last of the spotting and I hope to never see it again. It gives you too much stress. Good luck to you.

  • I had some light spotting around 8 weeks.  It happened after a day of yard work and mowing the lawn.  Chalked it up to over doing it.   Spotting is very common in 1st trimester.  I wouldn't worry unless it's heavy or accompanied by heavy cramping.  GL!
  • I've spotted on and off throughout my pregnancy.  Every couple days I just have a few drops of bright red blood.  The worst was at the end of 7 weeks, and that's when it started.  So far, everything has been ok with the baby since, we always have a strong h/b.  I've had a couple internal exams, the most recent was a few weeks ago as I complained again about the random spotting.  Dr. poked at my cervix but couldn't get it to bleed and there wasn't any blood in the vag either, even though I had spotting that morning.

I'm having some bladder issues due to the pg and all the nurses/docs I've seen suspect the blood might be coming from my bladder.  It's just hard to tell when you wipe down there.  TMI - I occasionally spot after I poo too.

Bottom line is that bleeding isn't always bad.  I know you don't like to see it, but if its not heavy and you're not in pain, you can't automatically assume the worst.

  • I spotted at 7 weeks also. I think it is fairly common, so try not to stress too much!
  • I had spotting/bleeding/clotting up until 16 weeks. They could never figure out why. Everything is a-okay now. My doc said "some women just bleed".

  • Yep, I had bleeding/spotting at 5 weeks with both my pregnancies. With DS, I went on to have a normal pregnancy and delivery. So far so good with this one!

  • I spotted quite a lot one night at work.  I ended up being sent home and went to the ER the next morning.  Turns out it was a subchorionic hematoma (blood inbetween the placenta and uterine wall).  I was 6 weeks 3 days when it happened. We saw baby chugging right along 2 weeks later at my first OB appt and the hematoma had pretty much resloved by then.  It's considered a threatened m/c however, you will find it's fairly common and most women go on to carry healthy full-term babies.

  • I had spotting for a day here and there several times in the first & second trimester...have a healthy baby girl here.
  • I spotted around 10 weeks one morning...same color...at first it was pinkish and then brown and lasted just for the morning it happened. So far so good with me. I went to the doc and same thing...little one was wiggling and heart was beating away...they noticed my cervix was irriated and I took the day off work to rest. They said if it came back to continue to rest but it never did. That was actually the last time I went to the doctor, I am due back tomorrow and hoping all is okay. I am def starting to show and felt my first flutter yesterday. Keep postive and pray always.
  • I've had spotting throughout.  Doc says I have an 'irritated cervix'
  • I had several cases of spotting. Usually, its nothing.
  • In my 7th week I spotted a couple of days.  Naturally, I freaked out and ran to my OB's office.  Everything checked out fine and this is when I heard the heartbeat for the first time - simply amazing.  Try to remain calm...easier said than done, I know.  Think positive thoughts.

  • i don't exactly remember how far along i was at the time, but i was at work until 11:30pm and at about 11:00pm i started bleeding, like more than spotting. So i went to the hospital right away. They did an ultrasound, his/her heart was beating fine and he/she was moving around happily. They did 6 blood tests and everything was perfect. I was on hospital watch for the next couple days but was allowed to go home several hours later. They told me sometimes during pregancies women will have unexplained bleeding like mine and that it's perfectly normal.
