Nap WWYD question here.

Max has started to take longer naps in the morning - like 2 hrs at a crack (he used to do 30-60 mins).  This is great except they are still at like 9:30 or 10am, waking up around noonish.  So then nap #2 happens at like 4:30pm.  I try to limit this 2nd nap to 30 mins, but I'm afraid to skip it altogether.

So, WWYD?  Keep him awake til bedtime (around 7pm) or just continue to let him nap for like 30 mins late in the day?  Or - could it be him transitioning to one nap??

If he does this late nap thing, bedtime is later and putting him down gets tricky sometimes like he's not tired yet.

Re: Nap WWYD question here.

  • I would try to push the morning nap later and eliminate the late nap.  Sounds like he's ready for one nap.

  • My daughter did this right about the same age.  I pushed her earlier nap to later in the afternoon and eliminated her later nap altogether.

  • My DD switched to 1 nap around 10 months.  During the process of pushing the nap later, I'd try to do some errands in the afternoon so she could zonk in the car for 20-30 minutes and then still go to bed at a regular bedtime.  Worked well.

Then once I got the one nap where I wanted it, she could stay awake all afternoon/evening.
