So you know how a lot of people say boys carry like basketballs, very round and in the front, and girls are more blob like and come out the sides too? Did anyone find this to be true? Everyone who sees my tummy keeps telling me I am having a boy, but I am not having my big u/s for a few more weeks. Is this an old wive's tale or true?
Re: Boy baby bumps, girl baby bumps- do you think the myths are true?
OWT
everyone guessed I was having a boy because of how I was carrying and that my face hadn't gained any weight yet...I'm having a girl.
I think every person carrier differently.
I don't think the OWT's apply so early in pregnancy though. I think it's more in the 30 week range.
Old wives tale if you ask me... I carried both my daughters like basketballs. I was all belly and you couldn't tell I was pregnant unless you looked at my side profile or unless you were looking right at my belly.
I think your bump depends on the way the baby is positioned and the way your body distributes your weight...
in the last 3 weeks i have had no less than 10 ladies come up to me and tell me that they were sure i was having a girl: ikea lady, nordstrom lady and farmer's market lady were all, in fact, POSITIVE i was having a girl, even going so far as congratulating me on my girl.
amnio came back yesterday: boy.
i was maybe 10 pounds overweight before i was pregnant, maybe that makes up for the slight "spread", but this tummy is no basketball...then again, my torso is so short, that if i had a basketball belly, i might completely fall forward...
probably an old wives tale. however, the chinese birth chart on thebump predicted it right....

The reason I think this is because I carried my dd like a basketball - right out in front - and she was a girl. I'm also carrying this one the same way - and this one is a boy.
My sister carried her daughter all over and her son.....the same way. I think it's just more of a certain way your body is going to carry.
When you did the chinese gender predictor did you do the conception month as the month you ovulated or the month your pregnancy started according to the first day of your last period? My last period was in July but the conception was in August. One says boy, one says girl!
I never believed it, but it turned out to be true for me.
BFP #2 12/26/11 ~ EDD 9/6/12 ~ MMC discovered on 1/27/12 @ 8w1d (measured 6w2d)
BFP #3 8/10/12 ~ EDD 4/23/13 ~ MMC discovered on 9/13/12 @ 8w2d (measured 6w6d)
That makes sense 'cause now that I think of it my sister's bump looked the same in all 3 pregnancies and she has a girl and 2 boys. It prob does just depend on your body.

I do however think there is some sort of truth to boys being low and girls being high. Everyone I know has followed that speculation.
The most "basketball-carrying" pregnant woman I knew had a girl, despite everyone's insistence that she was having a boy...these comments persisted EVEN THOUGH SHE FOUND OUT THE GENDER AT her 20 week u/s.
BUT I will admit that my mom carried us like this (me, everywhere; my brothers like basketballs) so I'm hoping for a boy!
