Any of you with low BP end up with pre-e?

My bp at the doc yesterday was 105/59.  Its normally 110/70.  Did any of you with normally lower bp end up with pre-e?  I would like to think that I can avoid at least this complication.

Re: Any of you with low BP end up with pre-e?

  • i always had normal BP throughout my pregnancy, and one day (at 32 weeks) it was just a little bit higher. i don't think there's anything you can do to avoid pre-e, and i don't think it really has anything to do with what your BP is like normally. it's because of all of the extra placenta (or somethin') that it's a higher risk in a multiples pg.

  • Yep, my blood pressure always runs low and did the entire pregnancy w/ my DD and did until 36 weeks w/ my DDs when I developed pre-e.
  • Yup, my BP has always been low. In my first trimester it dropped to 80/60 or so. I developed pre-e in my 30th week of pregnancy.

Can I ask how they diagnosed you with pre-e? My blood pressure was normal but they found protein in my urine so I did the 24 urine catch and now I'm waiting. I thought for sure I wouldn't have it because of my BP.. but I see its still a possibility.

This.  I was fine all pg and then pre-e hit me in my 35th week.

  • with my first pg i had fairly low BP (prepg and in early pg) and then ended up with pre-E in late pg. There's nothing you can do to prevent- so there's no reason to worry about it.

Your BP is pretty low- if you get dizzy or lots of headaches- you might need to up your salt and caffiene - this happened to me with the twin pg --- my bp was really low and i started to suffer from dizzy spells and migraines.  A little extra salt and having some caffiene each day got rid of it.

  • Mine was always on the low end until 29 weeks, then it rose and I had protein in my urine. I was switched to every week apts, I didn't make it to the next weeks appt since I had to have an emergency c section due to HELLP syndrome. It was the last thing I expected!

I woke up feeling "off" and seeing spots.  I stayed off my feet all morning and still felt off  so I called in.  They sent me up to labor and delivery to be monitored.  My blood pressure was up, not really high, but still higher than they would like so they started a 24 urine catch - they stopped it at 12 hrs and said I had protein spilling over.  At this point I was all ready dialated to a 4 or a 5 (I had PTL issues around 32 weeks so I had been dialated for a while).  So they broke my water and off we went.  Seriously - it happened that fast though.  I called my husband that morning, he thought I was calling to come pick me up, I said nope, they broke my water, get here now.  Babies will be born soon.  And they were less than 3 hrs later.

  • Mine has been okay throughout my pregnancy and this week at my NST my bp was on the boarderline high range, so now I am concerned.  I don't feel good, so we will see how it goes this week.  The Dr just said to rest which I have.
  • Mine started to rise in week 35 & 36, and I started to swell then too but delivered at 36 weeks...BUT I developed high BP after delivery & had to be on BP meds for 6 weeks! My BP was always 110/70-ish before that & is back to that now.
  • I typically have low blood pressure but did end up with pre-e and delivered at 30 weeks.  It came on very sudden and went from low to normal/high within 3 days.
