Have you taken Tamiflu?

Has anyone here been exposed to H1N1 & had to take Tamiflu? I was, even though I got my shot :( It hadn't quite been enough time for me to build up the antibodies. I did as much research about it as I could but it still makes me worry that it could have caused some sort of birth defect with my baby but I am trying to have faith that everything is fine. From what I've read there isn't much out there and truly the benefits outweigh the risks of taking it. Of course I realize there are going to be VERY varied opinions on this. Anyone else going through this & have you found any helpful research out there? Thanks :)

Re: Have you taken Tamiflu?

  • Yes.  Taking tamiflu far outweighed any risks of getting the actual virus itself to me and my doctor.  Call your dr for advice if you are concerned.

  • Did you take it as well? Were you worried? I'm already done taking it & talked with my dr about my concerns but she did not seem concerned. I'm just a worrier I guess! ;)
  • Yes, I took it.  No, I wasn't worried.  Like I said - the benefits outweighed the risks for me.

It is safe to take while pregnant.

  • I took Tamiflu while I was in the hospital with pneumonia. I didn't think about worrying about the Tamiflu

  • Thanks for sharing your opinion! Already did my research, just looking to see what others felt who went through it :)

ditto. I was concerned about taking the meds for prevention also when my son caught the flu.
I talked to my OB and she told me some stories about pregnant patients she knows and what they've been through from getting the swine. It was scary enough for me. One of the pregnant doctors in the practice got swine and was down for 3 weeks. It just hits pregnant women different for whatever reason. She also said if she was pregnant she would for sure take it.

tamiflu is not a new drug, it's been around for years so that makes me feel a little more comfortable that some obvious links would have shown up by now. good luck i know it sucks to have to make that decision.
