I judged a friend of ours tonight. Perhaps it's flameful but I really can't believe this. She is pregnant but still in the 1st trimester, so not making it public knowledge yet. We were at a small get together and she told us that she was pregnant while she was drinking a beer!?!? She said she was not going to stop drinking but would cut back to social drinking and limit herself to a drink or two. What?!?!?!
Maybe I'm too uptight about this but I don't think this is OK. I mean it's one thing if you find out your pregnant and you had had some drinks prior to knowing. But you are going to consciously choose to drink while pregnant?!?! And we're not talking a sip of your DH's or friend's drink and we're not talking about caffeine. She's a PhD level scientist!--come on!!
So yes, I judged...

Ditto Becki. I've had a glass of wine here and there since I hit second trimester - special occassions like my birthday or our anniversary. Never more than one glass though.
However, I didn't drink my first trimester. Once I found out I was very firm on NOT drinking during that time despite several saying, "MY doctor always said a glass of wine here and there couldn't hurt." First trimester is just too scary & I certainly couldn't imagine JUST finding out & then downing a beer.
I would have judged her, too.
I would have had to say something. Any alcohol in the first trimester can be dangerous. I'm ok with an occasional glass of red wine during the third trimester when everything is formed, but not the first two trimesters! I didn't even have coffee or soda!
I did not get the impression this would be an occasional drink here or there--more like 1-2 drinks 1-2 times per weekend. I personally chose not to drink during pregnancy, other than a sip or two of DH's drink here and there. But I just don't understand choosing to drink fairly regularly during pregnancy.
