has anyone flown with breast milk recently?

I'm attending a school weekend out of state in a couple of months.  At first, I thought I'd just pump and dump since it's only 4 days, but I don't have an awesome supply, so 4 days worth of milk is a big deal.  Does anyone have advice or firsthand experiences?  I looked at the TSA website, but they've got pretty skimpy info.  All I was able to determine is that I can fly with bm.  TIA!

  • maybe try the "working moms" board?? I'm not sure if it's very active, I've never visited, but you might find some moms who travel on there?

  • I just went on my first business trip since DD two weeks ago.  I packed my pump, Lansinoh storage bags, and a soft cooler with freezer packs.  Coming home from the Baltimore airport, I found a special lane in security just for families and "medically necessary fluids."  I had a female TSA agent search the BM cooler thoroughly, and she let me know that my ice packs were technically too many oz.  She still let me go through, but told me to ask for a TSA supervisor if anyone tried to hassle me about the ice packs.  Really, it was very uneventful.  I was very nervous. My milk was only chilled, nnot frozen.  GL!

P.S.  If you stay at a hotel, make sure there is a refrigerator and a little freezer.

  • I had my LO with me (and this was 2 years ago) so I am no help, but they were quite accomodating.  They let me take whatever I needed with me and didn't even check my son's sippy cup.  However, my FFing brother and sister in law were harassed to no end for wanting to take a water bottle in.  Good luck!  I just was very open with what it was and it was almost as though they didn't want to even look :)
