Thanks so much for your response to my post about hydrocephalus. I am glad your LO's situation was caught so quickly!
I am a little concerned over how my neo. and pedi. are handling this, so I am reaching out to a neuro. However, what signs/symptoms did you notice? My LO is VERY irritable (if he is awake and not eating, he is crying), sleepy. No eye drooping. His veins are also very close to the surface on his scalp...
Thanks again!
Re: **sarahkatherine8**
That is good that you are going to visit a neuro. My pedi referred us to a neurosurgeon immediately after DS's u/s came back showing fluid in the ventricles. That is what a good pedi should do IMO b/c only a neurosurgeon can properly diagnose what kind of hydrocephalus your DS has and if a shunt really does seem like it will be a necessity in the future and if so, how soon. And an MRI is the best way to diagnose this, which a neurosurgeon will probably want done right away.
The signs and symptoms DS had definitely included the irritability. His colic should have been getting better around 4 months and suddenly it was much, MUCH worse. He was having these terrible crying episodes - especially at night. They would get better after laying down for a while (another sign). He also had the downward gaze but we didn't really notice it ourselves - the neurosurgeon did right away though.
I am having a really hard time posting photos for some reason today or I would put before & after pics of Jackson on here for you to show you the difference in his head size and his scalp veins. Chrome and FF are both being ridiculous! Maybe later today I can get it work! I will page you if I do!!">
Well...shoot. One of the pictures worked and I had NO idea~! So anyway, that is the before photo (no idea what those broken photos are) and here is the after...
Hope you can see these ok, the difference in size is really noticeable. The veins were much more so in person.
