Walking and shoes

DS just started taking steps on his own! Still mostly cruising, but definetely walking! I'm in denial ;)

My question is when do we buy him shoes?

I'm hearing that Stride Rite is the way to go, but man they are expensive? Where can I find coupons? haha!

Re: Walking and shoes

  • We have always got our shoes from Target.  We have never had a problem with them.  With that being said we started putting shoes on DS when he was walking full time on his own.

  • We only do shoes when we go places so he can walk.  My mom bought him a pair of See Kai Run's which are great because he has big(size 7) wide feet.  If he can still wear the soft sole shoes I would go with those.

  • I always get my DS shoes at Target and he's never had a problem with them.  I refuse to spend a ton of money on shoes that he's just going to grow out of in a month anyway.  We started putting shoes on him when he started pulling up and walking while holding on to things.  We wanted him to get used to wearing shoes before he began to independently walk (which he does now).

  • I always left my DD barefoot at home, but for the most part, she always had shoes for when we left the house  :)

I used Pedipeds until she was 9/10 months old and then got her a pair of harder soled shoes for a walker.  The ones I got were stride rites.  A lot of people on here say the outlet is a good way to go...a lot cheaper than the current styles in stores.

Pedipeds are also a good choice and would run you about $30 full price.  Nordstrom might still have their half yearly sale going on (not sure how long it lasts) and they carry them...you could probably get a good price.

  • SR has sales of BOGO 1/2 price here and there.

He only needs shoes if he'll be outside or walking around in public. The best thing for their feet is to be barefoot. I bought Target shoes up until her most recent pair because she just didn't wear them too often and the $50 price tag was just ridiculous. Over the summer she was out at the park and down walking more in public so I bought stride rites - i actually got lucky with hers and only paid $22. they were on clearance because they were the last pair of that style. Also, after buying those and giving them my address, I've been mailed coupons. :)

I've heard on here that the outlets have great prices, but I'd have to drive 3+ hours to get to an outlet store.

it's important for the shoes to be flexible soles - target shoes just aren't flexible for the most part.

  • we bought her shoes after she got comfortable walking barefoot.  we did the leather soled robees until we bought her stride rites.  and then she only wore them when we were out of the house.
  • Our LO still wears soft soled Pedipeds outside and out and about.  He's barefoot at home.

Check out the pediped's clearance section on their website.

Stay at home mom to a house of boys: two amazing stepsons, 12 and 9, and our 4 year old.
  • Marshalls has stride rites sometimes too.
