Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Local news story...

A couple months back, this families toddler drowned at a water park. They are suing the water park...how come they weren't watching thier own kid?

  • Lawsuits like this one always remind me that as a society, we do not like to accept responsibility for our screw-ups.  The water park probably did need more lifeguards BUT we're talking about a 3 year old.  As a parent, I'm not taking my eyes off my young child in a pool.

  • A child can drown in a foot of water within how long? I agree the parents should have been watching the kid, but the world is an imperfect place. I assume they didn't drop the kid off at the water park and say "we will pick you up at 3". Things can happen when you look away for just a second.

I have a friend whose daughter drowned in their neighbors pool. The neighbors had a non-childproofed pool, which is not legal in this state. The daughter asked if she could go swimming while they were working in the yard. Mom said no, sent daughter in the house. Daughter snuck next door, was found 5 minutes later floating in the pool. She was 2 years and 1 week old. They are receiving a settlement from the neighbors.
