  • Maya will be getting these on 12/2. From all the other families I've talked to, it's a godsend.

    best of luck.

  • The surgery was kind of scary b/c my DS had a reaction to anesthesia, which is very rare, but he had NO complications other than that. It's been 2 years and only 1 ear infection! The only thing we had to do special was keep him from getting soapy water in his ears and keeping him out of lakes and rivers, which I would've done anyway.

Good luck to you and your LO! Are they taking his adenoids, too?

  •   My niece was 6 and had 1 ear tube put in last week.  The doctors were so nice.  She was never scared.  The whole thing took 5 minutes.  She went home after a few hours and was in school the next day.

    No, just tubes.

He actually hasn't had that many infections (just two, but one emergency room visit for "stuff" POURING out of his left ear). We have had 3 visits and he has had fluid for each one of them, so it isn't improving.

    Thanks for the advice!

  • Best money I ever spent.  Easy peasy procedure.  DS was a little scared when he woke up, and REALLY thirsty.  Otherwise no problems whatsoever.  I would ask if they'll have something for him to drink of if you need to bring him something.  They forgot to tell us but fortunately one of the nurses went and got him some pedialyte.

  • DS was 9 months old when he got them.  They scheduled his surgery for first thing in the a.m. (b/c they can't eat after midnight).  We got there and the nurses took him from us to take him back to the OR.  We were in the waiting room for maybe 15 min. b/f the doctor came and said they were done.  When we got back there he was screaming from coming out of the anesthesia.  He calmed down after a few mins.  He fell asleep on the way home and when he woke up, you couldn't tell he had had anything done.  We just had to put drops in his ears for a couple days.  It was a very quick surgery and I'm so glad we did it.  It helped so much with the ear infections! Good Luck!

  • T got tubes in July.  He had six ear infections (all double) before he was one year old.  After going through multiple rounds of antibiotics and many days with a sad baby, we went forward with the surgery.

Fast forward to today - four months later - and not one inkling of an ear infection.  He has had colds since - and they've cleared up without resulting in infection, which never happened before.  It has been wonderful.

The surgery itself was very quick and T never was upset - it was of course hard having them take him back but the anesthesiologist carried him in his arms, and he was able to take his nuk and blanket, so it was as comfortable as possible.  He was back with us and awake within 12 minutes.  Like a PP said, he was definitely thirsty - they had recommended watered down juice and he probably downed 8 oz of apple juice in 5 minutes.

Went home, he napped, and woke up his usual happy self.

Good luck to you and your little one!

  • Ds#1 had them put in when he was 15 months old,  he is now 10 yrs old and hasnt had an ear infection since getting the tubes.

Ds#4 just had tubes put in both ears last month.  Before he had at least 1 ear infection every month.  So far no problems,  they just started draing last week, but its been great
