i am 8 wks today & i won't be going for my u/s or even to hear the heartbeat until i am 13 weeks. I am a little nervous about this! we plan to tell the family at Thanksgiving but i am worried that I won't have seen the hb or anything before then. I had my 1st apt at 6 weeks but they don't listen for it then. Anyone 12+ weeks and no u/s yet? Help calm me down!
Re: Anyone not having u/s until late??
It's typical for a lot of practices to only do an u/s at 18-20w. That's really the only one that is "medically necessary" unless there is a problem or the patient is considered high-risk.
I am only suppose to get one at 18w at my doctor's office, but with #1 I had spotting at 7w, so they sent me for one then. With #2, they wanted to get an accurate measurement and EDD for this baby b/c #1 was so big. That u/s was 7w4d.

Same here. They are going to use the doppler to listen to the heartbeat at my 12 week visit, but I won't have an U/S until 20 weeks.
We aren't telling people until Christmas, so that might be why I am feeling fine with this timeline.
If it hadn't been for a visit to the ER for kidney stones when I was 8w, my first u/s would have been the NT scan.
I did hear the HB at my OB appointment last week. But still, I would have had to have waited 12 weeks for that.
It's very normal, but also a bit nerve-wracking. With DD I had A LOT of complications so I had a u/s pretty much every week from 6w through 13w.
Ditto this! I am high-risk so I got an u/s at 8w 3d. When my sister and SIL were pregnant, both of them only had 1 u/s throughout their whole pregnancy.
thank you ladies!!! this makes me feel much better. With DS i had an u/s at 10 wks bc of spotting but i'm not expecting that to happen again. i guess the fact that my stomach is bigger every day & i have increasing m/s are good signs.
My BFP Chart
Had my 1st appt this week (8 weeks). It was just family history and drawing blood. We are supposed to hear the heartbeat at the beginning of December (about 11 weeks) but we won't get an ultrasound until around 14-16 weeks. I think a lot of the people who get those earlier have high risk pregnancies or have had a loss in the past.
