would they give the h1n1 vax if you are "sick"

dh is a volunteer firefighter and the county is giving all police, emt & firefighters the h1n1 vax.  Its tonight.  DH is still not feeling good.  Right now his major complaint is severe congestion and thats it.  Would they still be able to give him the vax?

  • Not sure if it's the same but DS' pedi gave him his reg flu vax even though he had a cold. They said that fever is the concern.
  • If all he has is congestion than yes they will still give it to him. I had all 3 kids vaccinated for the h1n1 on Friday and they all had runny noses... the Dr said a mild illness like a cold is fine.

  • I was told as long as there was no fever they could get the shot even though they were sick.
  • Depends on the symptoms, but probably as long as he isn't "seriously ill" according to the sheet.  DD#2 got hers when she had an ear infection (poor thing) and a fever.  Because we knew it wasn't the flu and it was a low fever, the pedi said it was totally fine.  Poor thing with a double-whammy.
  • Both of my boys got it today, and they both have colds.  She said as long as they didn't have a fever over 101, she was fine giving it to them.

  • As long as he's not seriously ill (i.e. extremely high fever, vomiting, respiratory distress), they will probably vaccinate him.

Peyton is supposed to receive her H1N1 vax tomorrow, but has had a low grade fever and congestion for the past two days. I called to make sure they'd still see her and was told that it wouldn't be a problem, as long as her fever doesn't spike and/or symptoms change between now and tomorrow morning.

    Good luck!

  • I *just* got back from getting the kids vaccinated and the handout they gave me said that if you have a mild cold or illness you don't have to wait to get it.  DS has a cough/congestion and they let him get it.
