1st Trimester

Question about seeing Dermatologist

Ok, so this may be a totally stupid question, but this is my 1st pregnancy so I dont know any better! I typically see the Dermatologist every 6 months to a year. I need to go see her now, but just about everytime I go, she removes a mole or 2 for biopsy. Is local anesthesia okay to do during the 1st trimester? Or I may be into the 2nd tri before I get a chance to see her. I am going to ask them when I call, but thought I would also tap your brains....there may be some dermatologists out there! I googled and saw alot of info regarding anesthesia for dental procedures, but not much on derm procedures.

Re: Question about seeing Dermatologist

  • I believe it is ok.  Just make sure they use local w/out epi in it.

  • From what I read it was safe, but just a warning some women grow more moles during pregnancy and you may want to get checked afterwards as well.

I am moley enough I don't need no more stinking moles.

  • I (personally) think it should be fine...but I had a mole removed before I was pregnant (about a month ago).  After I was pregnant I received a letter stating the derm wanted to remove the area again (b/c a few cells reached the margin).  I called and spoke to the dermatologist since I was pregnant.  She said she would rather me just come in for 3-6 months check-ups and have the area removed after I delivered.  I think she is just being cautious.  Good luck!
