OPK question from GP board..sorry

Sorry to post here, but I have a few ques about OPK and I would like to know if you could help me.

thanks a bunch

So I am thinking of using this my next cycle.  A few ques if you dont mind

what brand do you use?

do you like using them(opk's)?

Is this how it works?  you start using before earliest O (for me CD6) (23 day cycles) and if for example I use the one with the smiley face, if I see a smiley face, then that means I will O within 24-48 hrs? do I have to keep testing after that or no?

Re: OPK question from GP board..sorry

  • I only used an OPK once cause they don't work for me. Some people always have the LH hormone in their system so I got 9 days of positive tests.

Charting and temping would be easier and you'll have a better view of what is going on.

Mainly if you have a smiley face you *could* ovulate between 24-36 hours.. but also remember because you got the smiliey face does not mean you will ovulate.

Check out Fertilityfriend.com and that will walk you thru temping and get you started.

    Good luck!!

  • I used the ones at the Dollar Store. I used it about a week before ovulation and the line got darker each day up until the day of ovulation. The line shows up when ovulation is likely to occur within the next 24-48 hrs, but as I said, the line showed up for about a week and was darkest towards my ovulation days. We had sex when the line showed up and nearly each day after and a couple of days after our perceived O day. Worked on the first cycle.
  • Thanks! I tried charting and it didnt work for me....I have an idea of when I O, but I am not 100% sure so I wanted to give it a shot...

    Thanks so much

  • what brand do you use? earlypregnancytests.com

do you like using them(opk's)? they were ok, but I switched to a CBEFM

Is this how it works?  you start using before earliest O (for me CD6) (23 day cycles) and if for example I use the one with the smiley face, if I see a smiley face, then that means I will O within 24-48 hrs? YES

do I have to keep testing after that or no? I always did to confirm that the surge was over.  Some people get positives two days in a row.

  • Ive used dollar store, Answer brand and CBE Digital OPK's. Digitals are IMO best because there is no guessing if the test line is darker than the control line. The bad part is, they are really expensive.

I've gotten +OPK's but only and I do mean only by following these steps. Do not use FMU (LH surges usually happen around 2pm), Stop drinking after 10am and don't pee after 10:30am. Hold it until 2pm and thats when you test. It's pretty much torture for those couple of days but it works. Before I started my method of doing it I really thought something was wrong with me because I never got a +OPK.

www.peeonastick.com has a helpful section you cantake a look at too.

  • Hi Jenn,

After 2 unsuccessful months of TTC without trying pinpointing ovulation, we decided to use Clear Blue Easy OPK on the 3rd month and got preggers that time around.

The pack came with 10 sticks, so I started to use them a few days before I expected to ovulate. Once I got a LH+ result, I stopped testing -- no need to keep testing for LH surge once you see it, save them for next month!  Once you see + sign, you will soon ovulate.

I'm really glad we used them, because I don't think that we were doing a good job by just guessing on our own. :-)

  • I used CBE OPK Digital - I liked the smiley face. No need to try and interpret.

You can look at my charts on FF to see when I used them.  PM me if you have any more questions.  GL

  • Personally.....I used them last cycle and did not get a single positive test. I am pg however. Luckily they were given to me or I'd really have thought it a waste of money. Though, they do work for some people.

  • I used a First Response kit...  The directions said to start testing the day after you period ends, but my periods were pretty regular so I knew I wouldn't ovulate for at least a week after that and waited until then to start testing (in hopes of using the kit for 2 months instead of one!).

The "line" showed up on day 14 - we had sex and had a positive hpt just over two weeks later!  Obviously, since it worked for us on the first shot, I'm a big fan.  I hope that in a few years when we're working on #2 that we will be so lucky, but I know better than to expect it...

Even if we hadn't gotten pregnant, it still would've been a worthwhile investment to A) know for sure that I was indeed ovulating, and B) have a better idea when during my cycle I would be most likely to get pregnant.

    Good luck!
