i thought this baby naming thing was supposed to be fun!
we had finally finally agreed on charlotte, but i hate that it's likely going to be "the name" of 2010!
DH could care less about popularity, but it bugs me. i caved with isabella bc he loved it so much, but i was hoping for something a little more...interesting this time around!
i am open to any and all suggestions. i like classic, yet not overdone.
thanks!
Re: shoot me now
I think that Charlotte is gaining popularity, but I still don't think it will be like Sophia or Emily in 2010. According to the SSA, it wasn't even in the top 100 names in Florida in 2008.
https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/namesbystate.cgiI made a list a long time ago that I add to periodically and Charlotte was my #1 at one point. Here is the list:
Charlotte (Charley)
Alice (Ali)
Elizabeth (Libby or Betsy)
Jillian (Jilly)
Caroline
Phoebe
Emmeline (Emmy)
Claudia
Amelia
Sydney
Clara/Claire
Josephine (Josie)
Lucy
Beatrice (Trixie)
Ruby
Juliet

My biggest problem is my picky-a$$ husband that actually, seriously, suggested "angela" this morning. i'm sorry if that's someones name or if you love that name, but nothing screams italian-american 80s name like angela. (i don't mean to be rude, but I wouldn't exactly pick my own name these days either! some names are just too dated and he's clueless to this fact.) sigh!
i swear he gets his picks out of his Long Island, NY HS yearbook!
Sounds like my ds, he was always suggesting names from the 80s. I read something about a study that was done that showed men tend to like names that are familiar to them, so they look to names they grew up with.
Maybe you can try looking at names that are alternatives to familiar names for him. Like instead of Angela- Angelina.
Personally, if you like Charlotte though and he agrees I would stick with that. I feel like it's almost impossible to really come up with a different name. I would always think I found something and either dh would veto it or it would turn out that it was way more popular than I thought.

I really like Charlotte...but others I can think of (and am a fan of) are-
Adelaide
Eloise (my fav)
Victoria
Gabriella
Roselyn
Jocelyn
Caroline
Catherine/Katherine
Cassandra
agreed.
IMO, Charlotte doesn't really "go" with your DC's names. They all have an Italian feel to them, Charlotte really doesn't. Maybe that's just me though.
It's NMS, but what about Charlene?
My favorite classic names are Grace and Bess.
