1st Trimester

Abdominal Pain

I am posting this for a friend of mine, who has just created a bump account and it is in the "waiting period"..... Please help her with this question.

"I'm 5 weeks pregnant and was fine until at 4 weeks along,  I had a bunch of life altering situations where I was REALLY stressed out---I started to get these pains in my lower abdomen on the side--I still get them some days.  Is this a normal part of pregnancy or is this something that might be likely to be a miscarriage?  I am 28, have never been pregnant before, no bleeding since implantation. I still have breast tenderness and am getting headaches, am extremely fatigued, and have some loose stools after eating(sorry if TMI). None of my friends have been pregnant either so I feel like I don't have anyone to ask for advice. I ordered some pregnancy books but they haven't come yet, and Google didn't say much about this."

Thanks in advance!

Re: Abdominal Pain

  • As long as there isn't any bleeding I would recommend just trying to take it easy. Being tired is normal and so are out of wack bowel movements.

If you really don't feel right just make a doc appt and go in to make sure everything is okay.

Just remember TAKE IT EASY!!! It's about your and your baby right now.

  • I had pain and soreness on my left side of my abdomen along with some brown spotting. The doctor said that I probably ovulated from that side and that was the cause of the pain. As long as you aren't spotting/bleeding bright red or pink, you are probably okay. Don't be afraid to call your gynecologist/OB and tell them what is happening. They may have you come in to do an ultrasound just to be safe. I was worried about possible ectopic pregnancy b/c of the one-sided pain. They did an ultrasound and everything was okay. I thought the doctor would be upset that I called b/c I was only about 5 weeks and hadn't even been for my first appointment, but she was really nice about it.
  • This is my second pregnancy and with both I had pains on one side.  They were brief but happened each day.  At my 8 week appointment with #1, they showed me a happy baby right where she was supposed to be.

Are they unbearable pains?  If so, you should make an appointment to go in asap.

     Good luck and congrats!

  • I just googled the heck out of this question last night.  I am 5 weeks and have had pain in my left lower abdomin pretty regularly.  It seems (from google searching) it is probably a cyst or just stretching of the legiments.   Everything I found said without bleeding you are fine and if you are really worried go in to the doctor.
