Baby Names

Genevieve

Will she be "Jen/Jenny" forever?  I know too many Jens (sorry Jennifer is a nice name but I was a child in the 80s.  My name is super common, too).  I would like to think I could do something cute like Eve or Vivi or some other nickname with it.  Am I just fooling myself people won't go right to the first syllable?  Thanks.

Re: Genevieve

  • It's on our name list as one of our top choices and if we use it we are calling her Vivy.

  • This name is on my list, but my name is Jennifer, so I have the same fear.  I think if you set a nickname, your fam/friends will follow it.  However, once she gets to school, all bets are off.  She may shorten it to Gen or her friends may do it for her.

    Good luck!

  • I know someone with that name and she is Genevieve
  • We'd go with Neve (like Neve Campbell) or Eve.
  • I love this name!  I know someone IRL so I could never use it.  She mostly goes by Genevieve, but some people call her Gen/Genny.

    I like Eve/Evie as a nickname.

Exactly.  I am one of the many Jennifers born in the 70's, and my parents nicknamed me Jenny early on.  That stuck until I was in about 5th/6th grade when I decided it was too immature, and I renamed myself Jen.  Relatives who don't see me that much still calll me Jenny, though.

  • I really like it! I agree that if you set a nickname right away, other people will follow it. I really like Vivi. I have the same problem, a lot of girl names i like have the nick name addy, which im not a fan of, so ive been working on finding other options!
  • I think it's very pretty and if you call her a certain nickname, than others should be able to pick up on that and use it too.

  • I have an aunt and good friend named Genevieve. They both go by Gen. My friend sometimes is called Genny.
  • I just had my daughter and her name is Genevieve Kate.  We are calling her Neve/ Nevie.
  • I know someone named this and she goes by Neve or Nevie. I think it's different and very pretty. As long as you don't call her Gen/Genny and insist on the nick name you've chosen, I think you'll be fine.
