3rd Trimester

Baby bigger than ought to be..?

From what I understand my Fundal height measurement (measurement of the uterus to determine how far along you are) has been correct and current. I went last Wednesday and the OB Nuse said I measured 2 weeks ahead. So she wanted me to get an ultrasound. I did. They confirmed the growth in the ultrasound with all the measurements. They, of course, are not changing the due date but said that his growth shows he would be due right around Christmas which is okay, I guess. Will be a nice present. ;) Though it would suck for his birthday. :D I'm going back in about a month to get measured again.

I know ultrasounds can be off usually from a few days to around 2 weeks or so. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Should I be worried? I don't have gestational diabetes or anything (my level was 106 out of 130 which I was advised was normal which was me not eating for 2 hours or so prior either). From what I can tell, he's just a big baby.

I've had to get several ultrasound throughout the whole pregnancy with measurements and stuff since I was born with a birth defect and developed Placenta Previa (mild) in my 2nd trimester. Of course, my Baby doesn't have any birth defects that can be detected through u/s or blood and the Placenta Previa migrated out of any danger/issues- in fact it's posterior according to the Sonogramist on Friday.

The other oddity I noticed was that his legs were in the correct week while the rest of his body wis bigger- torso around 33 weeks while his head was around 35 weeks. I haven't been able to find anything about fetail growth besides averages. I'm not too worried since his father and most of the men in my family are more torso than legs.

Just wondered. It seems a little odd.

Re: Baby bigger than ought to be..?

  • I have been measuring 1 week ahead and we know that my dd is accurate. Some babies are a little bigger for no reason.  My dr. said that if my Mom had not smoked during pregnancy then my brother and I would have been larger babies as well.

Plus fundal height measurements are not very accurate and ultrasounds can be off by 1 lb either way.

  • LO was measuring 2 weeks ahead at my 19w u/s and again at my 32w u/s.  I know my EDD is very accurate since I was charting so he's just a big baby.  If your Dr. doesn't think anything's odd, then you're fine.  I keep being told that our DS will "come when he comes".

  • LO's leg bone measurements put my due date a week earlier but everything else measured "normal". I think if there was something to be concerned about then your doctor would tell you.
  • My baby has measured 3-5 weeks ahead at every ultrasound.  I am having a C-section next Sat. at 39 weeks because the last ultrasound 2 weeks ago suggested that she was already 9 pounds.
