3rd Trimester

I don't want a preemie BUT

I keep hoping and praying that I'm going to go in for an appointment and doc's going to announce I'm due tommorrow.  You can bet as soon as I hit 37 weeks, I'm going to be having tons and tons of sex and lifting every heavy thing I can and running a daily marathon to get this kid out.  I've hit that point where you can't round your back anymore  because your belly is so huge and bulging and there's just not any room in your ribs and I think I might actually die of back pain or suffocation.

  • I know how you feel.. I don't want any complications, but as soon as I'm 37 weeks, I want her out!!!!

  • DH is out of town until Monday, so I keep telling LO that he has to stay put until dad gets home, and then it's fair game....
Totally beyond ready to have an outside baby!!

  • Your baby is still developing at 37 weeks.  While you may be uncomfortable it is best to let your baby bake as long as they can.

    37 weeks is considered term.

  • Meh, the way I see it is at 37 weeks, baby is considered full term, so if it decides to come at 37 weeks, I'll be doing a happy dance.
  • All 37 weeks means is that the lungs should be developed enough for a safe delivery.  However, there is a reason that there is a 40 week gestation period.  Your baby is still developing and strengthening in the final weeks.

Actually 'full term' ranges from 37 - 42 weeks.  Your due date is an estimate.  If labor starts naturally the hospital will do nothing to stop it after 37 weeks, and since a protein released from the lungs of a developing fetus once they have reached maturity is what leads to the initiation of labor in a healthy pregnancy, if labor starts, it means baby's cooked and the timer's going off.

So like I said before, will be praying baby is ready at 37 weeks, because lord knows I am!

  • I hate to admit this, but I am feeling this way too. After this weekend passes, I will be at 37 weeks.  If my LO would like to make an appearance by then...I am all for it.

I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of. Smile

I feel exactly the same way.  I don't want an early arrival, but at 37 weeks if the baby is done cooking, I'd be thrilled to see his little face.

  • I am so ready and if LO is ready anytime after 37 weeks, bring it on! :)
  • I couldn't agree more! I'd hardly be heartbroken if LO decided 37 -38 weeks was all the time she needed to tour the inside of my belly (when she's moving around a lot I say she is "sight seeing").  But hey, if some of you are convinced you'd like that baby in another 3-5 weeks, you keep those legs crossed tight and good luck to you!
  • TXSweetheart is just saying what many people are hoping - that they can have a healthy full term baby at 37 weeks! Why is this an argument? 37 weeks is considered full term, and it is obvious she doesn't wish any harm on her baby. I agree!
  • I'm ready too LO has been giving me Hell the last few days. I keep telling her she's getting her eviction notice early.

This!  I understand what she's saying.  I'm hoping we have a totally healthy, ready to be born baby at 37 weeks too.  I know my doctor won't let me go bast 38-38 1/2 weeks because of my fluid levels, but I hope s/he is ready around 37 weeks.  I have a big risk of delivering anytime within the next 4 weeks, but I'd like to make it to 37.

  • I knooooowww!!!  My h won't be home until a little over a week after week 37 hits......  how horrible is it that I'm STILL willing her to come on and out and play.  My mom is here, and every day she asks her if she wants to go ahead and come out and play cause she has some really cute clothes she needs to start wearing!  We are reeeaaady!
  • I know how you feel. BUT after seeing what my friend is going through with her two year old who was born early, I am more than fine to wait until 39w3d. Although, I'm considering asking my doctor to do my section at 38w6d like he'd prefer because I'm getting beyond uncomfortable. I have a sinus infection and can't breath so I feel like I'm suffocating which is hell. I'm claustrophobic as it is and this not a pleasant feeling.
  • Baby's lungs are still developing at 37 weeks. They may have issues with temp. regulation.

Just because a baby is full term, it's not ready to come out. That is why PREGNANCY is 40 WEEKS.

I really wanted my baby out - I had a miserable pregnancy. But, I am so thankful that I waited until 39 weeks until they induced me.

  • I would be totally fine if my little man decided to come today!!
  • I'm uncomfortable as hell right now at almost 37 weeks, but my first son was a late-term preemie. No complaining here about staying pregnant.  I'll take pelvic pain over the NICU any day of the week.

That being said, I don't think anyone should rip the OP. Those of us who are nearing term are all ready to be done.  It's natural.  You just get to a point where you want your bod back to yourself.  I just have a completely different perspective after having had a 35 weeker who spent 11 days in the NICU.  I wouldn't expect (or want) for any of the ladies on here who haven't experienced that to understand.  It's okay.
