So just a day after my OB told me I was still 1cm and that next week we would talk about induction, I decided to take a long walk. I didn't want to be pregnant anymore. At about 4:30pm, on the day of my walk, I thought I peed my pants or my water broke. Called L & D and explained to them what happened and after waiting about 1 hour with not much more action, I thought it must have been the peeing thing.
At 7:30pm, my mom and grandma arrived from the east coast on that same day. We talked, ate food, and thought about this little girl arriving. Well as dinner ended, I started to feel crampy. After it didn't go away, I told my husband I thought I was in labor so we started timing. They were coming like every 5-10 minutes apart. Around 9:30 he went to sleep and I stayed up to labor with my mom. The contractions started coming quicker and quicker. I thought that was crazy b/c this is my first and it shouldn't be happening so fast. After 2 failed attempts to convince my husband that it was time to go to the hospital, I finally demanded he get up. He thought I was being silly b/c contractions had just started.
The drive to the hospital sucked. The contractions hurt so much more and I thought it was b/c I was sitting. When we got to L & D they checked and I was 3cm. I was having a hard time breathing through them b/c they were coming so quick. One hour later when they checked to see if i was a keeper, I was already at 6cm. That's when i started cursing that they better get something going b/c I needed an epidural. This was around 1am. My doctor came in around 1:45am and checked me again....and I WAS FULLY DIALATED!!! I had no epidural and I was freaking out b/c I was losing control of my body. I told him that I needed something. I was able to get some sort of block, which lasted about 2 hours. I don't remember the name. I got it around 2:30am. It was enough to get me rested and relaxed and starting to push. But alas b/c I couldn't feel anything I wasn't pushing well and the block wore off. So I got to feel everything for the delivery of my little girl at 5;14am at 39 weeks 6 days.
It turns out, though, that my Abigail had stridor, where she wasn't breathing right. She needed to see a specialist so just 14 hours after her birth she had to be transfered to another hospital, so I spent her first night of life away from her. It turns out that one of her vocal cords is paralyzed. I can't breastfeed her, she has oxygen flowing in her nose, and today they had to put a feeding tube in her nose. This is not how this is supposed to be! DH has been so strong and amazing, though he is struggling just as much as I am. He can't stop holding her, as i sit and pump to make sure that my milk comes in. On Monday we will find out if she is doing better. The doctors say that 90% of the time this gets fixed on its own, but who knows.
This is the first time I'm taking the time to get my thoughts out and I just wanted to share my amazing and frightful story. It's not picture perfect, but we have our little girl and we plan on spoiling her rotten as soon as we get out of this joint!
