Small Sac Size w/singleton?

Hi ladies-My friend who had twins has had the same issues that I am now facing-BUT she had twins- I am only having one baby--She is not sure she can help me but I thought I would see if you smart gals knew anything about this????? Long story short -I had an u/s at 8 weeks--nice baby-nice HB -small sac-F/U to today--ten weeks-nice baby-nice HB-small sac :(Ask the Dr. "What does this mean?"Dr. says "I don't know" we may have to send you to a specialist-Me at this moment (after having a m/c already) crap!! :(My Dr. just does not know what to say and that is why she is 98% sure she is sending me to a specialist--which I guess is good so I can get some answers-but freaky all the same--Have any of you ladies heard of this without a woman giving birth to more then one baby? Any insight on what the heck is happening??Thanks!

Re: Small Sac Size w/singleton?

  • I had this issue with my son.  I did a bunch of internet research on this topic and the small sac usually indicated genetic problems.  Unfortunately for us, this did turn out to be the case, but I don't know if it is always true.  I think it is a good idea that you are seeing a specialist.  I hope you are able to get some answers, and that your LO is 100% healthy.  Good luck!

  • Thanks for responding! How did you know about the genetic problems with your son? Did you all do testing-the normal 1st and 2nd tri things?

All I can find on small sac size is that I am going to m/c--which no one at the Dr. office seems to think is the case (which is great on the one hand) but does not help the other~

  • Sorry.  I just got back on to read your response.  You may not even end up seeing this, but I will answer anyway.  We did the NT scan, AFP bloodwork, and 20 wks u/s as well as numerous other u/s throughout the pregnancy.  Nothing ever came up abnormal.  He was born healthy and did great on the outside.  Our first indication that there were any problems was when he began to have seizures at 1 month old.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.  :)
