3rd Trimester

those of you getting H1N1 at your dr's offices...

Ok ,so I really didn't want to post about this, but with everyone talking about their dr offices charging them for the shot got me thinking...

Here in FL.. they were mainly distributed to county health dept's before any dr offices get them.  They are free of charge there,, well b/c the gov't paid the pharm company for them.

They are giving them to PG women, healthcare workers, and small children.  Also, setting up clinics at all public schools to vax children with parental consent... starting w/ Elementary.

I would check your local health dept for the shot before going to your dr.

  • At this point, I don't mind having to pay. I would have to wait 3 more weeks if I were to get it from my county. I can get it Saturday at my OB's office.

  • yep, i got mine at the health dept here...i just heard they're going to be offering them at the hospital on base here too next week.
  • In Canada the flu shots be they H1N1 or seasonal flu are all covered and we don't have to pay to receive them. The doctors can't even bill an admininstration fee for administering the shot.

This.  And b/c it was at my OB's office it was Thimerosal Free, and the one I could have gotten elsewhere was not. That was important to me.

  • or you could go to jail because the inmates here are getting them before OB offices and hell so are the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay...

  • I received my H1N1 on Wednesday, and didn't have to pay anything for it.  My insurance covered it at 100%.  I'd call your insurance company and see if they are covering it, if they are then your dr should just bill them directly for it.
  • Because we are in one of the nation's H1N1 'hot spots' our vaccines were distributed to hospitals first... county clinics haven't been able to get any yet.  So I got mine at the OB (who got a small allocation through the hospital where I'll deliver) because I didn't know if/when I'd get another chance to get the shot.
  • I got mine at the OB's office Wednesday. They said insurance would probably cover it. I was planning on going to the health dept that day, but I would have had to wait in line, outside (it's less that 40 degrees out) for about 2 hours to get it. I was very happy to find out my OB had it!

I theory this sounds like a great idea, but it really depends on how well organized and run the clinics are. When they held the first clinics here I went and waited in line for 3+ hours for the vaccine and then they ran out. This week they offered the shot at my midwife's office. I'm not sure if they charged my insurance for it and I don't really care if I end up having to pay for it. I was not going to wait in line like that again.

  • That's good to hear that your Dr offices are doing them free of charge or billing insurance.

In my case, it was just easier to go the the health dept and get it with no wait than to sit at my dr office for over an hour to wait.  Also, they only have the thimerisol free verison.

I'm glad our local gov't really stepped up and made this easy for it's residents.
