3rd Trimester

Who else is GBS+ ?

Found out at my doctor's appointment yesterday that I tested positive for Group B Strep.  They say 15-40% of women have it.  Wondering how common it really is.  Who else tested positive??

Also - if you are positive, is that affecting your birth plan at all?  I kind of wanted to hang out at home a little bit before I went to the hospital, but now I guess I need to get there and get the IV started.

Re: Who else is GBS+ ?

  • I am. They found traces in my urine... so I dont even have to be tested...

  • I did not have it with ds1, haven't been tested for it with LO yet. But i hear the same thing, that it is very common.
  • I was positive for DD. I will be tested next week for DS.

I was still able to labor at home until 5cm with DD. I think they say you only need like 4 hours on the antibiotic but I could be remembering wrong.

  • Me!! found out at my appt on wednesday.
  • I am also GBS+.  Apparently the doc found traces in my urine way back in my 1st trimester.  I was retested and was negative; however, because I tested positive once( and I am told it comes and goes), they are planning on treating me prior/during labor.  This has not changed my birth plan.

I was for my first DD but i went to a full 42 weeks before i was induced so i was already in the hospital and making sure i had the meds for the full 4 hours wasn't an issue. I wasn't with my second so we'll see with this one.

  • I tested positive and was told that they want me on the IV 4 hours prior to delivery.  I haven't changed my birth plan aside from calling the hospital sooner to keep them posted on my status in case they want me in earlier for the IV.  Won't know until it happens.
  • I am.  I am not going to let it change my birth plan.  I can walk around with a pole and I.V., and as far as I know it should not be continuous infusion.  I am not planning to rush to the hospital unless my water breaks.  I want to contact at home for awhile!
  • I haven't been tested yet, but if I do test positive, my MW will just give me a couple injections. I'm so relieved that I wouldn't have to have an IV.

  • I am, I have had a couple UTI's during pregnancy and they found that when doing the cultures. It hasnt changed my birth plan at all, other than making sure I mention to who ever I talk to on the phone that I am.

  • I am GBS+. If my water breaks I'll have to really make sure to get to the hospital ASAP to get my IV antibiotics. Otherwise, they say I can wait until my contractions are 5:1:1, and they'll just let me walk the halls with an IV pole if I want to. It's not really making that much of a difference in my birth plan (which is to go natural), except that I can't be in the labor tub while I'm receiving the antibiotics. They say I can get in afterwards if I want to.
  • I found out I was on Tuesday, he said it grew a little bit in one of the two tests so he wasn't really worried about it. It hasn't really changed my birth plan as I can still labor at home he said as long as they have  hours.
  • i am, it hasnt changed mine much the only difference now is im going to have two iv's instead of one (one for the antibotics and one for the heprin lock)
