3rd Trimester

Holy hip pain batman!!

Please just tell me I am not the only one...

I have had chronic back pain and problems for years because of an old fracture, so when I got pregnant I always assumed my back would be the biggest issue to deal with.

Boy was I wrong...my left hip is just aweful!

I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, or I will get up from the couch, and holy crap does my hip hurt! I have the worst time walking on it. It also kills me when I am sleeping, since my only options are laying on that side, or the other side where it hurts when curled up or stretched out...I can't win! lol

I tried running after my dog at the dog park, and nope....can't do that. I take one running step and stop dead in my tracks.

I just want confirmation from others that this is normal, and that it will get better after delivery.

Will be asking my doctor at my next visit, but just wondering if anyone else is having this problem too. Thanks ladies!Huh?

  • Totally normal and it will get worse.  Then it will get better. I have had it on and  off the entire pregnancy.  I have now had 2 weeks of zero pain in my hips.  It is awful at night though.

  • Oh yeah every night!!  Its probably sciatic nerve pain like mine.  Ive had it since about 22 weeks I think and makes for a terrible nights sleep.  I just cant wait till it goes away!

  • My right hip is AWFUL. Try sleeping with a small pillow between your legs. I've found it helps a lot. As far as getting up and walking around... I just have to walk it off... even though it feels like my hip is going to pop out of the socket!
  • I'm with you girly! My right hip has been driving me crazy here lately. If I'm up and moving it seems to start feeling better after a little while, but for the most part it just plain hurts.  It's especially bad when I first get up from lying down/sitting.

  • I've had hip and back pain since about 24 weeks ... it has only got worse.  I now wear a support belt all the time.  The only time I take it off is to go to the washroom and to shower.  I've even had to start sleeping with it on in order for me to get some sleep ... it helps but doesn't make it totally better. I also sleep with a pillow between my knees and one under my belly.  My poor husband gets crowded out of the bed when my pillow fort is all set up at night.
  • it's always worse for me at night...

  • I've had horrible hip pain myself, mostly in 2nd tri, though. I actually found that taking my migraine meds that my OB gave me (Fioricet) really helped alleviate the pain.

And they would have had to commit me if I didn't have my body pillow.
