Finger Foods..nervous!

How small do you cut pasta, toast etc for LO? I just started giving my little guy cheerios and he choked on one already. I now cut them in half. How small do you chop your food for your LO in comparison to the size of a cheerio? I am so nervous now to start other foods. If it matters, he has two teeth on the bottom but thats it.

Re: Finger Foods..nervous!

  • Was he actually choking on the cheerio or was he gagging? I know it can be very scary, but gagging actually teaches a baby how to expel things and how much food to put in their mouth and helps them learn how to feed themselves and eat lumpier foods.

We started DS with very soft foods that were long enough for him to hold - such as long slender pieces of broccoli, sweet potato fries, banana, etc. ?

  • Loading the player...
  • i think cutting your cheerios in half is a bit much.

also, the pieces need to be big enough to pick up .... so cheerio size and a bit bigger...

  • Ditto on choking vs gagging.  Although they're both scary, they're waaay different.

Pretty much all the food I offer DS is Cheerio size or slightly larger.
