DIY Wipes and Washclothes question

For those of you who have made your own wipes, are they one piece of material or two?  Same question with the washclothes.  I wanted to make the cloth wipes that you pull out of the Huggies container, but wasn't sure if that would work with one side fleece and one side terry cloth (or if they would be too big).

Also, what kind of material did you use?

and what size did you cut them?

 TIA!!

Re: DIY Wipes and Washclothes question

  • I made my own using one layer of thin polyester terry and one layer of flannel. They are my favorite wipes.  They're about 8"x8".  We also use some single-layer flannel wipes that I got at my baby shower, which are too thin IMO, and some cheap washcloths from target which work fine but aren't as cute as the wipes I made.
  • Mine (wipes only) are 8x8, 1 side cotton flannel the other birdseye cotton.  Love them.  Much better than the cheap washcloths, IMO. For some reason, I have more stains with those - none on my wipes, plus I just like the texture better.

  • Thanks, I'm making them this weekend.
  • I making some this weekend too. I've got OBV, flannel, and terry cloth so I'll be making a little combination of them all. I'm doing 8 x 8 T&T ones to looka little prettier.

FYI....from everything I've read, DO NOT use fleece. I personally have no experience but I've ran across at least a dozen websites saying it just smear the poo around.

I made mine out of 1 side flannel 1 side birdseye also. I was actually repurposing the birdseye from the craaaaappy Gerber PF so I didn't feel like it was a total waste. I also made some out with both sides flannel. I like the birdseye/flannel better. I also have some of the walmart 15 or 18 white washcloths for $3.00 or $4.00 packs. I think I bought two packs. I had to trim some strings because they are pretty cheap, but they always come clean (as do the flannel) and we will never lack for washcloths after we are done diapering LOs.
